There’s a post I saw this week that really struck me and it goes like this:
“Strangely, life gets harder when you try to make it easy.
Exercising might be hard, but never moving makes life harder.
Uncomfortable conversations are hard, but avoiding every conflict is harder.
Mastering your craft is hard, but not having no skills is harder.
Easy has a cost.”
For some reason, I couldn’t help but think about all of the times in my life when I opted for the easier way out, the path that avoids conflict, challenge, and hardship while only gearing myself to comfort and easy times.
As a high-school student, I cheated my entire way to get by, and that easiness brought me the hard reality that no university had offered me admission even though I applied to a lot of places. The easy path didn’t help me prepare for that moment when it counted.
Joining the WORK Resident 2022 roster, Secus (Matt Salamon) gives his notable deep-driving elements to the residency mix. Co-founder of the label Ascetic Limited, Secus has also shared DJ booths with talented artists such as Claudio PRC, Ness, Deepbass, Wrong Assessment, Viels, David ATT, Wata Igarashi, Jeff Derringer, and many others.
Secus and Josh Sturges join In Silent Series X for the label’s first EP of the new series: ISSXII. In 2020, In Silent Series released 10 EPs of cutting-edge electronic music from some of the best producers of this era. Spanning a wide array of styles but built around the ISSXI | SOUNDS samples created by label owner Michael Jefford (aka Positive Centre), which was made available through insilentseries.org at the same time.
Save the date for Operandi 004 on October 1. Exos, one of Iceland’s most experienced techno artists, will be rolling through the City of Angels. Expect some raw rhythms, flashy hi-hats, deep atmospheres, and experimental soundscapes. Joining him on the decks is Los Angeles-based artist Secus and hailing from San Francisco Müzmin.

Isomorphism is achieved when an operation can be performed on two objects of different origin and yield equivalent outcomes; different means to the same ends. Secus and Amnesiac Host illustrate this symbiosis on Isomorphic, their collaborative debut release for Darkroom Bureau.
The pair joined forces with a mutual interest in hardware synths, working to illustrate the deep and atmospheric sides of their production techniques. The EP features an eponymous track they coproduced in November 2019, two new original mixes ‘Disintegrate’ and ‘Midnight Run’ by Secus, as well as a remix of ‘Midnight Run’ from Amnesiac Host.
On October 31st 2019 Ascetic Limited Co-Founder Secus, a greater Los Angeles producer/DJ and Live act also known as 1/2 of Motionen, joined us for our specially curated WORK presents Modularz Halloween Night with Developer at the helm.
Enjoy the recording of his set, a signature Secus performance characterized by deep, atmospheric and hypnotic soundscapes. Secus’ performance came before a four-hour set from Modularz boss Developer.
