What’s in Your Toolbox: POPOF

Artists will never come unprepared to a party. They always bring a toolbox packed with tracks that are truly dance floor destroyers. “What’s in Your Toolbox” features artists’ secret weapons, aka, the tracks they don’t leave out of their USB. In this installment, Parisian artist POPOF Shares his 6 choice picks that scream original techno in the form of Acid, Rave, amazing remixes, and dancefloor stompers — as well as a couple of song picks that have also been released on his own imprint FORM Music. Being a highly demanded name within the world of Techno and House music, POPOF has worked alongside other well-recognized artists within the industry such as Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Moby, BookaShade, Vitalic, Tiga, Maetrik, Martin Solveig, as well as many respected labels within the scene. From releasing many worthwhile tracks since 2015, it’s no surprise that POPOF is making 2023 another year of unforgettable releases and performances for his audience.

Listen: POPOF “Serenity” (Vitalic Remix) – FORM Music

One of FORM Music’s most beautiful releases in 2022, and I’m not saying this because it’s me, haha! All the remixes in this release package are excellent — whether it’s Booka Shade, NTO, or OXIA. Each remix has a really unique identity — it’s a must-have in my opinion! I often play the Vitalic remix as a closing track and it works perfectly.

Listen: Kai Tracid, Genloc “Mockmoon” (Peace, Love, XTC Mix) – Heldeep Records

One of my favorite tracks right now! The musical production is superb, resulting in a soft mixture of rave, acid, and techno sounds supported by a catchy voice. The perfect recipe for a very good track.

Listen: Space 92 “Meteor” – Factory 93

One of my favorite tracks by Space 92 among his many hits! It perfectly mixes emotions and energy, which gives an emotional but pumping all at once. I play it almost in all my sets, it’s a surefire way to get that dancefloor going.

Listen: Polymorphic “Chicks Love the Car (Attaque Remix) – Lektroluv / N.E.W.S.

This track sounds very simple but it’s diabolically effective. It starts with an unstoppable rise and then goes on with a big electro-techno beat. It is a recipe that works very well at parties if you want to see arms up in the air.

Listen: POPOF, Umek , Space 92 “Control” – Sixteenofive

This collaboration between Umek, Space 92, and myself was a real success! This track has been a part of my sets since its release, which is almost 1 year! The creative process was very natural because the three of us all have the same musical vision, which resulted in “Control” being at #1 in sales for several months.

Listen: Mauro Somm “Mobius Trip” – FORM Music

This one is FORM Music’s last release of the year 2022. Mauro Somm fired such a merciless 3-track techno EP! Mobius Trip is one of my favorite tracks — it has a catchy, hypnotic, and always-effective beat on the dancefloor!
