Celebrating House, Disco, and Dance With Nervian Society

Ascending into the realm of Electro/Disco-House is the Brussels-based group Nervian Society. New on the Brussels scene, the group is exploring the sonic depths of Electro and Disco-House music and turning their projects into sonically groovy pieces. Nervian Society is D&D’s project surrounded by talented guests. The first D is the composer, producer, and sound engineer, who has worked with some renowned artists such as TTC, DJ Cam, JC De Castelbajac, Holden, Instructor, JL Aubert, and Que La Suite Soit Douce — while the other D crafts the unique electronic tools they use for their production. The project is devoted to their dance music passion: Disco and Electro with accents of House music for good measure. On stage, they perform a hybrid live DJ Set that is a wall of sound made of loops, effects, mashups, modular synths, and live vocals.

In addition to creating groove-hitting masterpieces, the members also take pride in finding their haven for recording, producing, and collaborating with like-minded artists within Brussels’ scene in Spector Studio and their label Sub-Continental. The studio has had successful collaborations with artists such as the Flemish French-speaking Pop band Que La Suite Soit Douce (aka QLSSD), the Electro-prose duet The Cultural Studies, and the Punk-Hardcore act Instructor. Now, the group continues to celebrate their love of dance music with their latest EP Ducpétiauxlaan, which explores various shades of electronic music such as Electro, Italo-Disco, and of course, House.

Carrying the Spirit of House and Detroit With Angelala

The New-York based American House and Techno singer-songwriter Angelala found her calling through the dance and techno music scene in Detroit, her home. After being in the electro-pop duo HRT BRK then A&B for about a year, and experiencing the Winter Music Conference in Miami on a spring break trip, she eventually couldn’t resist her passion for creating house music as a soloist. Of course, regular visits to Chicago (the birthplace of house music) would also solidify her drive toward the house scene, and eventually play a role in her making the move to NYC. It was then in NYC Angelala had the revelation of not just wanting to be a spectator of house music but instead embodying it as a creative musician.

Since then, Angelala has gone on to be a part of momentous projects like her first release with Grammy-nominated House Music innovator Todd Terry, and releasing on labels like Inhouse, Terminator, Let There Be House, Grind City, S&S, Pocket Jacks, Break It Down Music, Fidget Music, King Street Sounds, Autektone and Broken Records. Performance-wise, she’s also showcased at legendary NYC venues such as Bowery Electric, Highland Ballroom, Pyramid Club, Pianos, Electric Room, The Rosemont, Macri Park, and many more. Now, Angelala releases on Grammy award-winning Steve “Silk” Hurley‘s label S&S Records once again alongside Tech Us Out and also releases again on King Street Sounds alongside Col Lawton for a 2023 project.

Mathias Schaffhäuser Releases 2 Polar Opposite Gems on Suleiman Records

Suleiman is a gem of a record label that has been running since 2016 with a sound that floats between deep techno and minimal house. Its release schedule is slow and steady with a focus on quality rather than quantity, and this is reflected in a roster of artists that include Cesare vs Disorder, Kris Wadsworth, Pheek, Onur Ozman, Robert Babicz, and many others of equal caliber. The record label has also featured music from its Canadian owner Darem Aissa and the most recent offering from the label is the EP Magnificent Madness by German artist Mathias Schaffhäuser.

Our Changing Industry: Nina Kraviz Ray-Bans, Music On Armani Shoes and Big Star DJs on GTA

Music On Armani shoes and Nina Kraviz Ray-Bans: no one would have predicted something like this in the late ’80s or early ’90s.

Back then, and until the rise of DJ superstardom, DJs and those involved with electronic music were considered to be a danger to the status quo and to the system, the agitators behind illegal raves, the evil pipers leading the world’s youth toward quasi-anarchy.

But things have changed, and they have changed a lot. DJs are idolized by the masses and whereas in the United States that is mostly the case with mainstream EDM names, in Europe it’s techno, house and tech house artists that are on this pedestal. No matter which side of the pond you are on, eyes are on club culture and brands have become essential components for club nights, festivals and other events to occur in the electronic music scene.
