Dense & Pika are a British electronic duo compromising Hypercolour label co-founder Alex Jones and Chris Spero, aka Glimpse. Heading up the Kneaded Pains imprint, which has played host to Eats Everything, James Welsh, and Will Clarke alongside their own productions, the duo have been at the forefront of hard-hitting House and Techno since the project’s inception in 2011.

Arriving on Patrick Topping’s Trick for the first time, the pair bring their big, booming techno to the label with two chunky tracks. Title track “U, My” sees airy vocal chops floating over big kicks, knocking percussion and a hypnotic, looping low-end, combining to form a heavy club cut, while “Sun Sesh” sees the duo reach for a combination of shuffling drums, tweaked-out FX, and rolling chords for a dynamic, chugging track.

Dense & Pika U, My EP drops on 15th April via Trick

Dubfire “Sound Bath” (Luciid remix) – Kneaded Pains

What can we say about Luke, a staple of our Kneaded Pains label. Unbelievable producer, his productions have so much dark energy in them, level any dance floor. Always feature in every set of ours. This remixes an ABSOLUTE STONKER.

Tambien “Drogato” – ESP Institute

Incredible sludgy, slo-mo modular techno on ESP Institute from 2013. Amazing groove under shimmering modular textures. Almost no hats at all.

Makaton “Rise and Kill” – Voitax

Have always been a huge fan of Makaton. Really like his vision of techno. From abstract polyrhythm to distorted crunchy grooves, this is one of his more playable offerings.

Casa “VHS” – Hayes

This guy’s incredible. Really pace-y deep techno. Perfect for breaking up a techno set.

Cari Lekebusch “Mad Poet” – H-Productions

Not many records have been in the ‘box’ longer than this. For some weird reason people still always ask what it is. Cari has been churning out incredible quality techno for nearly 30 years. This is our fave from his vast back catalogue, absolute wonkathon from 1997.

Dense & Pika “U, MY” – Trick

Would be daft not to put our new record on trick here, this genuinely flattens gaffs. Try it if you don’t believe us ;-)

Friday and Saturday will see Paradise and Kompakt take over with label bosses Michael Mayer and Jamie Jones inviting Dubfire, Apollonia, Gui Boratto and Apparat to join them on top of the bill for their respective label nights.

The making of a stellar lineup is combining the old with the new, the heavyweights with the young talents: a skill that the team at DGTL has mastered and will show on their first day when Nina Kraviz and Modeselektor are joined in the first area by Âme, Jon Hopkins and De School’s Oceanic. The second area will be the domain of residents Ryan Elliott, De Sluwe Vos and Fort Romeau.

Paradise is back for round three after two successful edition where they have proven their ability to take everybody to cloud nine. Familiar faces Richy Ahmed, Patrick Topping, Andrea Oliva, Detlef and the boss himself Jamie Jones are accompanied by DGTL x Paradise first-timers Dubfire, Apollonia, Matador, Peggy Gou and Lauren Lane.

After four sold-out editions of DGTL x Kompakt, the label from Cologne returns for what is bound to be another memorable event. Michael Mayer will play b2b with good friend Patrice BĂ€umel. More musical ingenuity comes from Weval [live], Pachanga Boys, Danny Daze, Locked Groove and Tobias Thomas. The two latter are up for opening duties, and the whole gang will be joined by two special guests, Apparat and Roman FlĂŒgel. While both haven’t released on the German label, their quality will elevate the night to a whole new level.

The always on high demand tickets will goon sale on the 26th of July 12.00 GMT+1 on the DGTL website.

Best Tracks of the Summer

Dennis Ferrer playing Ibiza 2014

Dennis Ferrer playing Ibiza 2014

It’s that time of year. The summer has officially ended, and dancefloors around the world are still buzzing from action packed months. At the end of the summer a frequent question arises, “what was the hit tune in Ibiza during summer?” Well, one could attempt to narrow it down
but we all know that everyone likes a different flavor; so the folks over at In the Mix caught up with some DJ’s in Ibiza to ask what their track of the summer was. Check out the full list of artists and their respective selections here

Groove Armada, Dennis Ferrer, Patrick Topping, Steve Lawler, and others all weighed in on what got the dancefloors moving for them. From the open air parties to Sankeys, there’s a little something for everyone, these are the best tracks of the summer – 2014. Each DJ selecting one track, the final list proves to be a nice blend of throwbacks, new releases, and some original productions from the artists themselves.

My personal favorite…Ze Box, the flipside to D’Julz amazing release selected by Cassy. Hard to beat a summer house tune like that.
