Detroit’s Movement Festival Draws Over 30,000 Daily Attendees

Movement Music Festival concluded its 17th year at Hart Plaza, welcoming over 30,000 music fans daily, from across the globe to Detroit, the mecca of Techno music. The festival proved once again its unrivaled status as a sonic paradise with over 115 acts performing across six stages, including a VIP Pop-Up Stage, on Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29. The Movement Stage witnessed the stellar presence of dance music titans, as the illustrious Basement Jaxx captivated on Saturday Techno star Charlotte de Witte mesmerized on Sunday and the grand finale unfolded with the highly-anticipated closing set by the electronic music legends, Underworld, on Monday. Before their legendary performance, dance music icon Skrillex took to the stage, igniting an explosive energy that set the tone for the awe-inspiring finale by Underworld.

Artists will never come unprepared to a party. They always bring a toolbox packed with tracks that are truly dance floor destroyers. “What’s in Your Toolbox” features artists’ secret weapons, aka, the tracks they don’t leave out of their USB. In this installment, NYC-based artist Charles D (USA) has established his unmistakable sound that combines hard-hitting techno grooves with progressive sounds and influence. 2022 has been a huge year with releases on Octopus, Factory 93, and the almighty Drumcode imprint. Charles’ Epic Mix for Adam Beyer and Bart Skils’s “Your Mind” is a chugging end-of-night weapon that was first played by Adam Beyer to close out Awakenings at the Gashouder during ADE last year. It further soundtracked events including Movement Detroit, Tomorrowland, and EDC. “Your Mind” the original was streamed over 38M times and was judged by Mixmag as one of the greatest techno tracks of all time. Charles has big 2023 plans with upcoming releases on Drumcode, Factory 93, and Kraftek.

For Ellen Allien, Music Is Her Elixir

Within the techno community there is no doubt that Ellen Allien is one of the most respected djs, producers and label owners out there. Ellen is your favorite DJ’s favorite DJ; the influence to many artists that we look up to today. Her widely successful label Bpitch Control has been a techno taste maker since its inception in 1999. More recently through her Bpitch imprint, Ellen has released part 4-6 of her We Are Not Alone VA- a 36 track compilation of high quality techno that you expect from the label and the artist’s she picks. From having residencies across the world to being one of Berlins biggest acts, she has cemented her presence in the techno realm and is nothing short of legend status.
