Spanish Label Depaart Relaunches Bringing Enigmatic Sounds

Spanish label Depaart is starting fresh, and not because something was wrong or not working but because with growth comes change. Depaart has evolved and shifted direction. Expanding from a label to a collective they do it all: events, music and are their own artists. In Madrid, they’re widely known for their monthly day time parties Tortilla & Fluido that feature a blend of music, art, and of course, Spanish tapas. Original founding members Carlos Palop and Jorge Primo now primarily focus on the business end working behind the scenes. Taking the helm and driving Depaart as an artist are Guillermo Marraco (Guille) and ‹Fran Zaragoza (Fran). With new music on the horizon, Depaart is reaching new heights.

The Future of Demo Submissions for Music Labels

Guest post by Jason Trevor Miller aka Redux Saints

As an Information Technology professional, I’ve constantly looked for ways to automate manual processes for better efficiency.

Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of becoming a label partner/owner of Krafted Music, which supports three sub-labels in the electronic music industry. As I have learned the intricacies of running a label, I’ve come upon a common label pain relating to demo submissions. Today, labels are inundated with countless demos each month, so many that they’re not able to properly sort through them. Not only is that a source of pain for labels, but the demo-submitting artist potentially can wait weeks for a response from a label.

In 2017, Rami Shalom approached me requesting help with aggregating requirements and testing for the end user experience for his SaaS [software as a service] solution, Sendemo. Sendemo is an innovative A&R ecosystem that allows record labels to effectively manage their demo submissions in a controlled environment. It provides artists with the things they desire the most: acknowledgement, feedback, and a path to grow as an artist. These opportunities, which labels previously called ‘development’, have all but been lost in the industry. Sendemo creates a feature that is missing in today’s music industry: artist development.

I had a chance to catch up with Rami Shalom recently to chat about his vision for the Sendemo platform and how it could potentially impact the music industry.

Simon Shaw, founder of Sense Traxx

Sense Traxx  is a record label and event brand that really starting to make a name for itself in the underground circuit of its home city of London.

Since, the Sense party brand has hosted parties in Ibiza, London, Luxemburg, Switzerland and more.

The brand launched its label, Sense Traxx, in March 2016 hitting Traxsource #1 with their Julyan Dubson “Make A Thing” release, and hosting other standout releases such as Kalyde “Tied,” James Curd’s “Balloon Talk,” Tobias” “Fya Bun” and South Royston’s “Work It Out.” Simon used to work A&R at Defected and has since moved on to run Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse and MadTech, bringing his experience and expertise to Sense Traxx.

We asked Simon to dive into his experience working with large labels and launching his own, and to dissect the differences and similarities between the two:

Digging Deeper with Codex and IAMT Label Owner Spartaque

Ukrainian DJ and Producer Spartaque, real name Vitalii Babii, has become a name known for raw quality on the international techno landscape. He’s been at it for many years, but got his first break in 2007 DJing at Ukraine’s Global Gathering festival, and has continued with this festival every year since. Since, he has added other vital performances to his resume by performing at Love Parade, Kazantip, Mayday, and others.

Spartaque supplements these performances and maintains the momentum by way of his award-winning Supreme podcast, in addition to numerous guest mixes on other podcasts and radio shows. As an artist he has been composing and producing dance music since his teens, finally being able to translate his passion and hard work into a career as a young adult. His first release came in 2005 with a contribution to a Virus Music album in 2005. More than a decade later, he now boasts over 300 released tracks on a large number of labels. His arsenal includes both original works and remixes for some of the top artists around the world.

Maintaining balance between industry and artisanship, Spartaque has played a key role in the creation and development of two key techno record labels, IAMT and Codex. With a touring schedule that is as busy as ever, we caught the opportunity to dig deeper about these label projects with Vitalii, getting into the nitty and gritty details of what it really means to be a label owner and manager of your own imprint(s), releasing on vinyl, throwing label parties, doing A&R and much more.
