seismic dance event 5.0

The 5.0 Return of Seismic 2022

It was only a week ago that Seismic introduced their world-class artist lineup — a lineup with the most celebrated names in the house, techno, and electronic music scene. From November 11th to the 13th, Seismic’s three indoor and outdoor stages: Volcano, Tsunami, and Frequency encapsulated the Texas region with distinctively curated production and sound elements.

Of course, Texas is all about “go big, or go home”, and Seismic truly represented their brand with the festival taking place at The Concourse Project — a seven-acre venue run by the RealMusic Events team. Go big indeed, because the venue was recently nominated by DJ Mag as part of their Best of North America 2022 awards, and was categorically recognized as being one of the “Best Large Clubs” by DJ Mag.

Being Bold and True With Shiba San

There’s much more to Shiba San than what meets the ear at first listen. As a two-time International Dance Music Award-winning producer with over 15 #1 Beatport tracks, there’s a reason why DJ Mag France named Shiba San “Best of House”. Leaving behind a 15-year-long career in the French hip-hop scene, the Parisian producer became fascinated with the sounds of Chicago house and was inspired to create his own productions, infusing his hip-hop influence with the soul of house music.

His critically acclaimed record label, Basement Leak, is also home to some of the finest tech house tracks on the scene right now. Since the label’s inception in 2017, Basement Leak has taken over stages at renowned festivals and curated its own events at Art Basel, Miami Music Week, FriendShip, Groove Cruise, Sound Nightclub in Los Angeles, and Faust in Paris.

Staying quiet on the public front, Shiba San remains a curious enigma to his international fan base, allowing the music to do the talking for him. In between releases and time spent concocting in the studio, Shiba San remains a mainstay on the nightlife and festival circuit around the globe. There are no signs of slowing down for the Parisian producer.

Andy Cato From Groove Armada Sells Catalog to Buy a Farm

One half of electronic duo Groove Armada, Andy Cato, has sold the rights to his own tracks in order to buy a farm. In a recent piece for The Guardian, Cato described his journey in the agricultural industry and how he set his sights on pursuing something bigger than just a self-sustaining farm in his back garden. “On the way back from a gig 15 years ago, I read an article on the environmental consequences of food production. It made for sobering reading and ended by saying: ‘If you don’t like the system, don’t depend on it,” he said.

High Levels Of MDMA & Cocaine In Glastonbury’s Water Impacting Wild Life

Researchers have found high levels of MDMA in Glastonbury’s water and are studying its effect on the local wildlife. Studies are showing high levels of drug contamination in the river that runs through the site of the Glastonbury Festival. Dan Aberg, a Masters’s student at the School of Natural Sciences at Bangor University, and Dr. Daniel Chaplin from the Centre for Environmental Biotechnology (CEB) measured levels of drugs found in the Whitelake River before, during, and after Glastonbury Festival 2019.

Options For Your Old DJ Gear

Technology moves at a fast pace these days and audio/music technology is no exception. Due to this there will come a point when as a DJ you will have to upgrade your equipment for better performance. The DGTL Revolution: Leading The Way In Festival Sustainability

Born in Amsterdam as a two-day festival, DGTL has quickly expanded with editions now taking place in Barcelona and São Paolo in Brazil, as well as hosted curated showcases during ADE.

The DGTL 2017 edition will take place on April 15th and 16th during Easter Weekend, once again providing a differing festival experience than its competitors by bringing in heavyweights in techno and house, paired up with local and international emerging talent. The roster of talent, which this year includes acts such as Speedy J, Maceo Plex, Dixon, Lee Burridge, Motor City Ensemble and Mind Against, is all housed on impressive stages within a raw, industrial setting and cutting-edge audio-visual productions.

On top of its musical programming and curated attendee experience, DGTL is also leading the way in festival sustainability thanks to its DGTL Revolution initiative. The program aims to always keep sustainability top-of-mind, through various concerted efforts that see the festival not only raise awareness on the subject of sustainability but constantly search for technological innovations to reduce waste, lower CO2 emissions and stimulate participation from attendees to do the same. We recently tackled the urgent need for sustainability in the music industry, a goal DGTL has been tackling for years now.

The Need for Sustainability in Today’s Music Industry

More and more artists are prioritizing the need for sustainability in today’s music industry. They are slowly transforming music parties into greener more environment-friendly festivals. It all begins with small initiatives such the single-use of plastic bottles and the technology that allows tour trucks to utilize sustainable biodiesel to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In ecology, sustainability (from sustain and ability) is the property of biological systems to remain diverse and productive indefinitely and as part of the ecosystem. It is up to each one of us that inhabit this beautiful planet to do our part to help attain homeostasis without causing further harm to the environment. More importantly in our industry, it’s imperative for each one of us to to act out and promote the need for sustainability.

As a producer, you can help out by producing more environment-friendly festivals and put a stop on wasteful party practices. Here are some of the biggest festivals that have adopted the “leave no trace behind” policy and practices recycling and other means just to cut down C02 emissions: Grassroots, Outside Lands, Sweet Life, Lollapalooza, and Lighting In A Bottle in the States, or DGTL in Amsterdam. There’s plenty more out there, with festivals, big and small, old and new, rising to the occasion to forward as many green initiatives as they can.
