I was watching a program on the science channel last week about fleas… yes, fleas. What fascinated me about them is their ability to jump up to 8 inches high, which is about 150 times their height! If you’re 6 ft tall, that’s equivalent to jumping about 900 feet in the air, which is just remarkable.
Be honest about your ego: how would you react, and what would you say if, after losing your best employee ever, they went on to continue to achieve great things with a competing company?
Â
How do you react when you see another producer/DJ have more success than you?
2020 was a challenging year in the creative industries, and musicians and bands have found it especially difficult to reach their fans and continue to provide music in the same way.
Governments around the world are showing little budget priorities to fund the creative sector. So, where does this leave artists? DJs and producers are taking matters into their own hands. They’re picking up side hustles to make money during COVID-19. Many haven’t had a proper gig in more than six months. For some, touring was their primary source of income. While it’s uncertain when events will come back, life isn’t stopping. The show must go on. Check out how some artists are tapping into their other talents and creating side hustles to help bring in money. Read more
Think about it, there are a lot of bedroom DJs and producers out there, so how do you break through the noise? The difference between an amateur and a professional lies not only in their habits but how tools they use to level up. Making the move from an aspiring DJ and producer to a professional artist requires an investment of time and financial resources. Home of Sound, a music and media company based in the U.K., invites those who are serious about taking their career to the next level to join their program. Get your music noticed with this house and techno production course. Read more
Desert Hearts co-founder Marbs delivers key live streaming advice for artists.
Live Streamingâthe phenomenon that has officially taken over the dance music world in this new pandemic era, and a topic weâve covered at length. For touring musicians, live stream performances have become a lifeline, providing supplemental income in lieu of gigs. In return, fans are able to connect with one another and find an outlet to dance and enjoy as close to a live music experience as possible from the comfort of their homes.
The coronavirus pandemic has impacted artists income from touring in a big way, and this is where side hustles come in handy.
While it may be a while before artists see those income streams fully return, there are alternative ways to earn income that are becoming popular. Namely, there are a ton of opportunities in the freelance economy.
It’s also known as the collaborative or sharing economy â which sounds nicer and gives a clearer picture of what freelance work involves. Creative side hustles are a great way to tide yourself over until you can get back on the road.
Events might be out of the question indefinitely, at least here in the States, but with their absence brings a silver lining: more time for creativity. Many producers, including Andreas Henneberg, have used this time of COVID-19 imposed restricted living to hit the studio, making club hits of tomorrow or taking the very first steps in learning how to write music electronically.
I hope you are off to a great week! We got some new stuff dropping today at The Shop but before we get to that I wanted to share with you a story about my trip… well not the typical vacation trip or festival trip I would normally attend right around this time of the year but a different kind of trip. I took acid for the first time last year and had a pretty crazy realization about life and how mind-blowing it actually is, despite all the ups and downs we have to go through over and over again. Despite the obstacles being truly endless.
