One of techno music’s top 10 best-selling artists in 2020 and 2021, Space 92 is a trailblazing French producer who has been played by the biggest names in the industry.
Space 92 began composing and producing at a very young age. His sound identity is a mix of trancey techno, distorted percussion and a touch of acid, in addition to underlying sensitivity and nostalgia – perhaps influenced by his passion for vintage 80s Sci-Fi.
He talks to SIX AM just on the heels of his remix of “Inferno” and a new world tour.
Hi Space 92 thanks for talking to SIX AM. How are you doing?
Hi guys, thanks for having me! Iām great, although physically exhausted. I go through 100 different time zones a month but hey, I love it, not complaining!
Since being one of the top selling Beatport techno artists during the pandemic youāve been maintaining your upward trajectory as an artist. What would you say are some key factors that have helped you in your success?
I would say first and foremost working like crazy, night and day. And I would then add believing in my work, not deviating one millimeter from my goals, not trying to follow trends, and staying focused.
Speaking of your trajectory, many artists go through evolutions in sound and projects. What were some things that led you from your previous Matt Minimal sound to becoming Space 92?
When I started my first project, I was a kid, literally. I wasnāt even old enough to drink alcohol in the venues I played in! Iāve grown up and matured since then, and so did my tastes, skills and preferences. It took me ten years to make this transition; I was very close to calling it quits, even. Ironically, it was the pandemic that allowed me to break through and be heard. Iād never performed as Space 92 in front of a crowd – and all of a sudden, I was topping the charts.

What are you excited about for your new remix āInfernoā?
I am so proud to see my name next to Carl Coxās, Reinier Zonneveldās and Christopher Coeās. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined that a couple of years ago. Also, Iām super happy with this remix because it respects the originalās identity while also reflecting my own personality. I worked very, very hard on this one.
Whatās been the crowd reaction to āInfernoā so far? At what point do you put the track into your sets and why?
Itās been fire! That one is such a dancefloor banger, the crowd goes crazy!
You have a ton of shows coming up, are there any particular shows or locations you are especially excited about? Why those shows/locations?
My goodness, yes! Iām super excited about playing in Argentina for the first time. Iām heading there next month and Iāve heard so much about the Argentiniansā warmth and friendliness ā and letās not get me started when it comes to the food haha. Thereās also Uruguay, Brazil ā¦ In addition to so many European festivals coming up. The list is too long but you can check my tour dates on my Instagram if you like, I made a link in bio thingy.
Thanks so much again for talking to us. Is there anything else youād like to add before signing off?
Pleasure is mine, as always. Iād simply like to emphasize once more how excited and happy I am to tour, make people dance and meet my supporters. I count my blessings every single day.
