It is with sadness that the world’s music community learned of Keith Flint‘s passing today.
The Prodigy frontman was found dead at his Essex home, aged 49. Police are not treating the death as suspicious:
āWe were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in Brook Hill, North End, just after 8.10am on Monday. We attended and, sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.ā – Essex Police spokesman
Keith Flint was the vocalist on The Prodigy hits such as ‘”Firestarter” and “Breathe”, which both topped the UK singles chart in 1996 and helped establish dance music in the mainstream both in the UK and the States.
The Prodigy have confirmed news that broke this morning of frontman Keith Flint passing away via posts on their social media channels.
In social media posts, bandmate Liam Howlett paid tribute to Flint and revealed the cause of death as suicide.
His Instagram post reads: āThe news is true , I canāt believe Iām saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend, Iām shell shocked , fuckin angry , confused and heart broken ….. r.i.p brotherā
“Firestarter,” like many of The Prodigy’s other singles, was a true rave anthem, powered by a menacing MTV video starring a flamboyant Flint in a stars-and-stripes sweater, reached No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. Back in England, it was The Prodigy’s first No. 1, and it was soon to be followed by many more.
The Prodigy’s third album, The Fat Of The Land, topped the Billboard 200 in the U.S. and went No. 1 in at least eight other countries, continuing the band’s legacy in the realm of electronic music and the mainstream. The group continued to remain popular in the UK, although not quite so much in the States, clocking top UK album chart positions seven times between 1994 and 2018.
