Humble Beginnings: An Interview with Julius Jetson

DSC_1302

In February 2015 I took my first and only trip to Washington D.C. to visit a close friend. While there, he took me around to check out the city’s vibrant house and techno scene, including two visits to Flash nightclub.

On the first night at the intimate venue I had the pleasure of meeting Julian Ragland, a friend of his and one of the minds behind D.C.’s music community and promoters Nu Androids. It so happens that Nu Androids were hosting Dirtybird artist Kill Frenzy that night and the place was jam packed – an impressive feat for a Wednesday. I have since come to grow tremendous respect for Julian’s work in the D.C. electronic music scene as both an artist and event curator, constantly seeing him push the boundaries from both platforms. Although I never had the chance to see him play live (he produces and spins under the alias Julius Jetson), I have seen the tremendous success and support his productions and performances have received in the electronic music industry.

I recently had the chance to talk with Julian and discuss his past, present and future going forward as both an artist and at the helm of Nu Androids.

Washington D.C. is about to be graced with a brand-new daytime festival to be held at Union Market. The Sidewalk Ends will be the first of its kind in the city’s capital – an entirely “underground-focused” festival organized by the D.C.’s Flash nightclub in collaboration with party collective Prescription.

The one-day event will take place on Sunday, July 24th, in a hidden outdoor area of Union Market complete with two separate stages, full bars, vendors, food trucks and plenty of shaded areas. As you would expect from any lineup curated by Flash and Prescription, the artists booked so far to play the Funktion One sound systems at The Sidewalk Ends include top-tier names of the world’s underground house and techno scene.

Although the promoters are planning to announce additional headliners, we already know that attendees will experience performances by Dirtybird recording artists Catz ‘N Dogz, Bpitch Control’s Camea, Los Angeles-based Marques Wyatt, Keith Worthy from Detroit, Flash’s very own DJ Lisa Frank and Navbox, Prescription collective member Juan Zapata and a selection of other fine local D.C. artists such as Yola, Benoit and Hot Coffee.

Tickets are on sale now and while $10 early bird sold out already, $15 pre-sales are still available!

We have teamed up with Flash to give our readers the chance of winning a pair of tickets to The Sidewalk Ends. Our contest begins at midnight of Wednesday 13th of July and will run until midnight of July 22nd. Simply enter through the widget below:
