Is a Warm up DJ Losing Popularity?

There’s an art to a good warm-up, it’s a skill which is rarely passed on these days. All too quickly, DJs are bemoaned for playing too hard, too fast, or too many bangers, but when have we really spoken to the warm-up DJ? Normally, the warm-up DJ is a young artist who’s managed to sell a few tickets and gotten themselves a gig. And, it seems that warm-up DJs rarely get congratulated on a job-well-done for warming up.

The Warm-Up DJ Dilemma: Play The Room or Hold Back?

It is the dilemma every DJ assigned as the opening act faces with each booking. Must that DJ “play the room” and go all out for the crowd? Or should the DJ hold back in deference to the headlining act?

There are two different thoughts about this matter. Each of them have sound points that hold merit either way, which is why it’s important to look at each side of the argument and the philosophies each abide by.
