Club Space Miami Re-Opening: Is Clubbing In The COVID Era Only For The Rich?

What became good news for many, that Club Space Miami is re-opening this weekend after Gov. Ron DeSantis eased lockdown restrictions in Florida, became bad news for most: in order to abide by strict safety guidelines Space Mami patrons will need to fork out thousands of dollars for table service to experience the club’s re-opening in the current COVID months.

Opinion: The Hypocrisy of Pacha Ibiza and the Island’s VIP Lifestyle

Ricardo Urgell, founder of Pacha Group

Unless you’re living under a rock, or have absolutely no interest in the rapidly changing world of dance music, you have probably heard that Pacha Group went on sale in September for a requested €500 million.

The sale of the Pacha brand includes hotels and venues directly owned by the company, such as Pacha Ibiza, Destino and LĂo, as well as the franchise fees paid by the dozen or so clubs around the world who use the brand’s name. When the news was filtered to the media, the reason for the sale was boiled down to a distaste of the Matutes family, who own UshuaĂŻa Group, and the VIP lifestyle that Pacha alleges the Matutes brought to the island.

Save Ibiza: How To Support Sustainable and Affordable Tourism on the Island

IbizaBeach

As our #TBT Series feature from last week covered, Ibiza has been a popular destination for travelers and ravers for decades now. As the years have progressed, however, electronic music as a whole has seen a tremendous boom with resultant increase in popularity of Ibiza as a party destination. With that we have seen a rise in enormous luxury hotels, bottle service and a general VIP culture permeating the island and almost obscuring the true magic that Ibiza can offer.

A group of people on the island has decided to take back the authentic side of Ibiza by launching Save Ibiza, a website that aims to support the island’s family-run businesses and provide the authentic Ibiza experience beyond the VIP culture.

I have traveled to Ibiza myself five times and always encourage friends making the trip to push themselves beyond Platja d’en Bossa, the clubs and popular beaches. There are tens of secluded and picturesque beaches a mere 30-45 minutes drive away from anywhere on the island, family restaurants with amazing menus, locally sourced ingredients and honest prices, and an entire list of non-clubbing activities to take advantage of.

Save Ibiza gives you the tools to experience the island as a local, providing accommodation resources, a list of real-feel Ibiza eateries, a selection of non-club party options and perhaps most importantly of all, a series of activities that push you to explore the island and look beyond the confines of Space, Amnesia and the other popular nightclubs there. The website provides a local voice for the community with a specially dedicated blog that touches on a series of subjects anyone making the trip to the Balearic island should be familiar with: vegan food options, free local festivals, kids activities on the island and ways to help preserve the true nature and spirit of Ibiza.
