12 Open Air Venues You Need to Visit This Summer

If there’s one supreme thing to look forward to during the summer it’s open air parties. Warm weather and blue skies overhead as lush house grooves emit from the speakers – it’s a hard scenario to beat.

Throughout summer it’s not uncommon to see open-air pop up parties such as Richie Hawtin in Plaça de la Boqueria, tINI hosting beach events in Ibiza (until they get shut down by authorities), or Subtract and Sublevel taking over a golf course in Malibu. But pop-up parties aside, there’s established venues that will be grooving all summer.

Here are 12 open air venues that we have our sights on this summer.

Ushuaïa and Pacha Ibiza Raided by Spanish Police, Millions of Euros in Cash Found

Pacha Ibiza

In the early hours of September 15th, 6:30am local time, Ibiza’s Ushuaïa Beach Hotel and Pacha were raided by local police as part of the ongoing operation that is looking into suspected tax fraud.

Operation Chopin launched with the raid of Amnesia earlier this summer, including the arrest of the club’s owner, his son and three other workers at the venue. The nationwide investigation continued with similar raids at Privilege and Space, all part of a total of 87 venues that are being looked into for possible tax evasion.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo stated that the Pacha and Ushuaïa were visited by police this morning, September 15th, at 6:30am and 8am respectively. Ibiza news outlet Diario De Ibiza reported that police also made a visit to the offices of Grupo Empresas Matutes (GEM), the parent company of Palladium Hotel Group that oversees Ushuaïa.

Authorities found millions in Euros in cash at both venues. It will now be up to authorities to verify if the cash was being recorded or not. A tax agent involved with the operation said: “Now we just have to verify if the amounts correspond to those declared in the companies’ accounting records.”

With Pacha now on sale for $500 million, Space Ibiza closing down, 6:30am morning curfews enforced by police and Operation Chopin in full force, many are left to wonder what is happening to Ibiza and how much the island will be changing in the coming years.

Ushuaïa Ibiza Opening Party to Feature Richie Hawtin, Guy Gerber, Maya Jane Coles and More

Last Year's Ushuaïa Opening Party

Last Year’s Ushuaïa Opening Party

As we inch our way through winter, Ibiza is gearing up for a new season and announcements of opening parties and residency line-ups are starting to flair up.

Ushuaïa Ibiza, the island’s biggest outdoor party venue, has announced an Opening Party lineup that veers away from the EDM-centric names it often houses throughout the season by focusing purely on a roster of underground stars. While ENTER.Ibiza is no more, the brand’s head-honcho Richie Hawtin will be headlining the celebrations, accompanied by a supporting stars of excellence. In alphabetical order, he is joined by Andrea Oliva, the mind behind the Ants Colony concept, Rumor’s Guy Gerber, ENTER.Sake’s Hito, Hot Since 82, La Familia’s Joris Voorn, Los Suruba and last but not least Maya Jane Coles.

The party doors will open at 12pm on Saturday May 28th, with tickets ranging between 40,00 € for early entry and 60,00 € for regular ticket.

Although no information has been provided, the event flyer not only bears Hawtin’s M_nus logo but also the label’s signature colors and style. It will be interesting to see how things shift on the island this year, after news came out that Ushuaïa Ibiza is purchasing the iconic Space Ibiza across the street, a move that coincided with Carl Cox’s announcement to not return to the club in 2017 and Hawtin’s decision to not continue ENTER.Ibiza altogether.
