Digging Deeper with Tripeo

Last week we had the honor of featuring Darko Esser’s techno project, known around the world as Tripeo, on our weekly Global Vibe Radio mix series.

This week, we had the opportunity of sitting down with the busy Dutch producer, DJ and record label owner to dig deeper in his life, his career and to discuss the mix that we have literally had on rotation non-stop for the last seven days.

If you haven’t listened to the mix, which clocks at a whopping 4 hours in length, we urge you to get to it immediately. It’s actually a live recording from his set at TAG in Chengdu, China, and perfectly captures Tripeo’s sonic journey when he is given the time to flex his muscles behind the DJ booth.

A soundtrack for dark cellars and strobe filled clubs, molded from a pure and uncut techno template. That’s what Darko Esser’s Tripeo alter ego is only and all about. Since launching the project, his music has found a home on labels such as Theory, BALANS, PoleGroup, Deep Sound Channel as well as 4 new vinyl-only Trips on his self-titled imprint. Tripeo is a force to be reckoned with on stage as well, as he proved in his machine funk-driven live shows as well as tireless, hypnotic DJ sets in some of the finest clubs and festivals around, as this recording we are presenting to you today proves.

Enjoy the tunes, and the interview, below.

Premiere: Tripeo and Doka Launch New Project “The Leap” with Four Dazzling Cuts Entitled “Plastic Soup”

The Leap is a culmination of endless days and nights, taming sequencers, synthesizers and other sound machines—by both its members, Tripeo and Doka.

Based in Nijmegen, arguably one of Netherland’s most attractive electronic music hubs, each has separately made waves in international waters – Tripeo with his mesmerizingly fierce take on atmospheric techno, and Doka with an equally hypnotizing and relentless musical approach. The launch of their eponymous label marks the next milestone on their journey where they focus on social and environmental issues our planet possesses.

ā€œEach release will have a theme based on an environmental or social subject, as climate change and inequality in the world is of growing concern and music gives an amazing opportunity to connect people worldwide. The idea is not to shy away from the elephants in the room, but to address them in a constructive manner. In that spirit half of the proceeds of each release will be donated to a cause directly linked to the theme of the release.ā€

ā€œThe first release is as the song titles suggest about Plastic. An effective and cheap fabric with many useful purposes, but unfortunately it has become a huge burden on the environment which is taking it’s toll in a dramatic way. Half of the proceeds of this release will go to the Plastic Soup Foundation.ā€Ā ā€“ The Leap

Kicking things off, ā€˜Single Use’ delivers resonating kicks drifting delicately with swirling modulations and alleviating pads undulating throughout. Next up, ā€˜Plastic Soup’ deploys winding acid synth progression fused with infectious sweeps and a polished percussive sequence.

ā€˜Covered In Waste’ then offers up clattering off-beat drums layered with emotive low-frequencies and fluctuating oscillations to give off an energetic spectacle before ā€˜The Clean Up’ rounds things off with an electro-tinged groove balanced with momentum-building rhythms and otherworldly aesthetics.
