Nicuri: 5 Records That Never Leave My Bag

Born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, Nicuri’s journey toward producing music and DJing took hold later than most.

Moving in circles surrounding the Exchange Place crew (DJ Qu, Joey Anderson & David Salazar) helped craft his style of DJing & music. His DJ style is careful selections arranged skillfully into to one seamless journey. His start as a DJ had landed him spinning at Concrete in Paris and Panorama Bar in Berlin on his first tour. From there he’s spun at the Panther Room in Output and many other parties in NYC.

Nicuri’s first track release was on DJ Qu’s record label Strength Music on the Exchange Place series called “Ridinthatneedle”. It was a start on his journey to connect with people through his music. His fledgling discography include other releases on labels such as Growin’ Music, Inimeg Records, Bliq, Mora Music, YYG. In 2014, he had established his own record label called “Sound Theories” to further put out more of his music to the public. It’s here where he just put out his latest release, the stunning sounds of ‘Nicuri’s Landing’, a record that’s rightly winning props from some of the scene’s foremost players.

We caught up with Nicuri recently, as he gave us the lowdown on 5 tracks that never leave his bag.

Tom Ellis Defines Himself With 5 Records

Tom Ellis is a name many of you will likely recognise thanks to his work at the much-respected Freerotation Festival in Wales. Alongside other key figures such as Leif, Steevio and Suzybee, Ellis has been instrumental in turning Freerotation into one of electronic music’s most treasured and loved festivals, with always-discerning guests featuring everyone from Move D to Jus Ed to XDB.

A much-respected DJ and producer in his own right, Ellis’ music has featured on a range of globally-respected labels, including Minibar, Organic Music and Turquoise Blue. His latest comes at us from emerging French label Motion Sequence, and once again sees Ellis conjure up a diverse array of contrasting sounds — as is his forte. Backed by a remix from Ephemere founder E-Tronik, this is a release that speaks volumes of the label and the producer’s rich and raw talent.

But what does Ellis himself consider his most fundamental works? Well, here’s what he told us when we caught up with him recently.

Quenum: 5 Records That Never Leave My Bag

Having released a slew of seminal records and repped some of the best and most world-renowned labels in the game, it’s safe to say that Philippe Quenum is a man who knows a thing or two about electronic music.

A prolific producer, his music has graced labels as diverse as Cocoon, Serialism and perhaps most memorably, Cadenza, where he released the famous “Orange Mistake” alongside Luciano way back when.

Nowadays, Quenum is best-known as being one half of Azimute alongside his good friend Cesare vs Disorder and is just as renowned for his technical ability behind the decks as he is his undoubted studio nous. A DJ for over 2 decades now, we decided to check in with him to ask him about the 5 records that have left his bag.

As you might imagine, they’re a pretty darn classic sounding bunch too!

“”5 Essential Tunes with…” is a feature on 6AM that explores underground dance music artist’s current favorite tracks, in an effort to showcase the best productions currently making the rounds in the world of techno, house, tech house and deep house.”

We did not choose One Track Brain to be interviewed for our first installment of this feature by chance. We found irony in asking an artist whose name in and of itself focuses on “one track” to select his current five favorite tunes, and were more than curious to see what the results would be.

Is SoundCloud Making Moves to Delete and Block All Uncleared DJ Mixes?

Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 10.25.00 AM

Is SoundCloud slowly deleting all uncleared DJ mixes? It appears that may be the case.

According to Digital Music News, SoundCloud has made plans to delete all DJ mixes that haven’t been fully cleared yet, a move that is bound to affect a large portion of the files uploaded to the platform by its 185 million active users.

Users have now begun to notice massive amounts of DJ mixes disappearing from their playlists. Several high-profile users such as Morgan Page and L’Affaire Musicale have already had their entire accounts or uploads deleted, with SoundCloud making it clear that DJ mix or live sets contains popular tracks that belong to another artist will be deleted. If a music file is deleted, the user sees all the statistics racked up through that upload also disappear.

UPDATE: SoundCloud issued a statement today replying and denying that any measures have been taken to delete DJ sets off the platform. The statement reads:

“The story has no truth to it. At SoundCloud, we’re on a mission to create a place where all creativity can live. SoundCloud’s creator community, including DJs, is incredibly important to us.”
