Doorly Discusses All Things Los Angeles and the Launch of His Reptile Dysfunction Label

This coming Saturday, 18th of March, DJ, producer and label-owner Doorly is bringing his Doorly & Friends tour back to Los Angeles for a special night at Avalon Hollywood.

The mega-club will host an entire line-up featuring Doorly’s curated guests for the occasion: Tensnake, Solardo, DJ Yoda and Tan Dem. You can purchase tickets via Seetickets as well as enter our contest for 2 free tickets on our website here.

There is no denying that Doorly is a man on the constant move. The British-born artist relocated to the States and lived in Los Angeles for years before moving back to Europe last year, where he continues pushing forward on a career that has seen him tour the world, release on labels such as Cajual, Dirtybird and Hot Creations, become an event curator and now start off his own imprint called Reptile Dysfunction.

We exchanged a few words with the busy man to discuss his love relationship with Los Angeles, the new label and the structure of his Doorly & Friends parties.

Larry Heard Mixes Rebirth 10 For Record Label Anniversary

The Rebirth 10 release by Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers marks the 10th anniversary for the Italian Rebirth Label. This 2 CD special compilation, selected and mixed by Larry, includes key releases from the first 10 years of the label plus unreleased tracks. The release features artists like Agoria, Butch, Marc Romboy, Joey Negro, Blondish and remixes by Motor City Drum Ensemble, Deetron, Dixon, Henrik Schwarz, Nic Fanciulli, Radio Slave, Tensnake, and Ripperton to name a few.

Rebirth Records, established by Daniele ‘Shield’ Contrini in 2006, has surely matured over the years into one of the most respected independent Italian labels. When discussing the release Shield said, “The philosophy behind the label finds its roots in the past, building a link between the soul of a song and the warmth of a melody then combining them with a contemporary sound. I’m always looking for something timeless, something that I can imagine to still listen to in 20 or 40 years time. Who better than Larry Heard could do it for us? He delivered a mix that embodies the soul and the different facets of the label. Larry, as well as having remixed three songs for the label, is among the producers who had written the history of a musical genre and one of the names who most have influenced our music. The cover of the CD is designed by Emil Schult, who has created some special images for the occasion. Visiting him in his studio in Dusseldorf and breathing his Kraftwerk experience has been an unforgettable moment. I’m really pleased they both agreed to work on this project.”

Los Angeles’ underground promoter Minimal Effort just unveiled its Halloween Phase I lineup and it’s chock-a-block full of talent.

After three years at the forefront of the city’s house and techno scene, Minimal Effort are moving their Halloween and New Year’s Eve one-day parties to a new location, the LA Center Studios. On October 29th, the 5,000 capacity venue will feature the elaborate decor and meticulous curation the Minimal Effort team has become well known for, all against the backdrop of Los Angeles’ downtown skyline.

This year’s spooky celebration will feature none other than BBC Radio 1 legend Pete Tong, Suara boss Coyu, Jonas Rathsman, Mark Farina, Dosem, Edu Imbernon, Thugfucker, Tensnake, Steve Bug, a DJ set by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs as well as live performances by Satory and Tiga, who will be debuting his new live show in LA on the night.

The complete Phase I lineup can be found below. Tickets will go on sale this Thursday, July 21st at 12PM at minimaleffort.net. Is it too early to plan Halloween in July? We don’t think so when the curators and lineup are this good!
