While all tracks have their own special character, some personal favorites off the EP are Fly Back, It’s You, and Anna Talking Bubbles. Each track stands alone with tremendous amounts of character, but as one cohesive release Dreaming Back is a great journey through the deeper sounds of house and techno. So far it’s received support from artists such as Magda, Stacey Pullen, Hermanez, Marc De Pulse, and Ibiza Sonica Radio to name a few. Freebie Friday: Redshape – Hallo808

Redshape

If there’s one thing we know about Redshape, it’s that he has a way of delivering house and techno unlike anyone else out there. The Berlin artist chooses to perform anonymously, embracing a red mask. But don’t let the mask fool you as an overused gimmick; his music certainly reinforces his artist persona. From sets like Circoloco at DC-10, Ibiza to productions being supported by artists such as Cassy, Sian, and Steffi, his sound acts as a puppeteer to the dancefloor.

Redshape offered up an absolutely gritty 808 inspired jam as a free download on Halloween back in 2013. Not for the faint of heart, this is mostly a DJ tool that can be used at disposal when needing to add some serious punch to a set. His ethos has always been about an emphasis on the music, in all aspects. While this is a very dance floor driven track and a giveaway, Redshape has a catalog that stretches far and wide, fully expressing his range as an artist. You can download the track below from his Soundcloud.

Techno Therapy: 16B – Water Ride (Stacey Pullen Remix)

Stacey Pullen live

When an artist grows up listening to the sounds of Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and other Detroit legends there’s a strong chance that they too will become great. Stacey Pullen is a perfect example of such an artist. Bridging the gap between house and techno, Stacey Pullen has an uncanny ability for taking the crowd on a spiritual journey through the musical spectrum. Fortunately for Los Angeles, he will be gracing the decks at Sound Nightclub this Friday along with fellow Detroit legend, Carl Craig. Which is why Techno Therapy this week is dedicated to Stacey Pullen; here’s his remix of Water Ride that sends us on that journey.

Free before 10:30 with RSVP: Stacey Pullen and Carl Craig at Sound Nightclub

His remix of Water Ride is such a well-rounded track it would be impossible not to move to this. Lush pads swirl gently in the background along with a sequence of verbed out rides that provide support to the classic house stabs. A timeless piece that shows his talent, but as we know his ability and range stretches wide across both house and techno. We’re looking forward to a memorable night this Friday with him and Carl Craig at the helm. For now, this will be the Techno Therapy to get us through the rest of the week.

Artist Spotlight: Etai Tarazi

Etai photoshootMany artists work hard. Some work harder. Etai Tarazi falls into the latter category. Making New York his home, Etai has had an incredible year with releases on Nicole Moudaber’s MOOD Records as well as a handful of releases on Octopus Recordings. With a distinct style of driving techno, he has an uncanny ability for making speakers rumble and having dance floors go absolutely insane. We recently had the opportunity to catch up with the talented New Yorker.

His music and DJ sets speak for themselves, but as a person, Etai Tarazi is an incredibly humble artist who appears to be determined at fulfilling his own personal goals and dreams. His career is off to a phenomenal start too. With support from industry heavy weights such as Nicole Moudaber, Gregor Tresher, and Adam Beyer, Etai Tarazi is certainly gaining traction in the techno community, and the future is looking very bright.

In between gigs and studio time we asked Etai some questions about his feelings on New York, his relationship with Sian and Octopus Recordings, plans for 2015, and more. Read more

Techno Therapy: Slam – Factory Music (Remixes)

Slam

Although Slam didn’t make Resident Advisor’s Top 100 this year, it’s undeniable that the duo had one of their greatest years yet. Releasing their 5th album Reverse Proceed, running Soma Records, and sharing the booth with any techno DJ worth their salt, 2014 was more than kind to Slam. Reverse Proceed is a beautiful compilation of 14 original tracks that truly push the boundaries of techno. Atmospheric dub textures? Ya they got that. Analog and modular sequences that make me feel as if I’m raving in the year 2099? Ya…they nailed that too. If it were up to me, this would win album of the year…but alas…it’s not, and I digress. Out of those 14 tracks, they recently released a ā€œreinterpretationā€ EP on Soma which invites the immensely talented Planetary Assault Systems and Flug to remix Factory Music, a track clearly aimed at the center of the dance floor. For Techno Therapy today, we bring you the remix package of Factory Music,Ā and all of it’s techno goodness.

D’Julz at Womb, Tokyo

Djulz Womb Flyer

When it comes to getting the dance floor wild, leave it to non other than French house star D’Julz. To get our Monday started on the right foot here is D’Julz live from one of our favorite Japanese clubs, Womb. He brought the finest blend of house and techno to the clubbers at Womb for quite a journey on Halloween night this year.

The mix starts with classic house pads and atmospheres, and it sets the mood perfectly for the remainder of the mix. After the first track I was hooked. The groove transforms as a single percussive hit changes everything, and moving forward it is a true house music experience. To be honest, quite envious of those who were on the dance floor for this one.

The event was promoted and organized by prominent music group Tresvibes, and included Point G (Live) and many Japanese residents to complete the lineup. Japan is starting to become a focal point for the ever growing house and techno scene in the world, and nights like these show that there is an incredible amount of promise moving into the future.

Freebie Friday: Premiesku – Despre Ei

premiesku

When it comes to minimal, not many do it better than the Romanians. Livio & Roby in conjunction with George G make up the deadly minimal trio known as Premiesku. Deep rolling grooves, sizzling percussion, and waves of textures are all employeed to deliver warm grooves to the dance floor. For this week’s Freebie Friday, here’s a free download of Despre Ei, a track from their Move 4 release this October.

Despre Ei is a well rounded dance floor tool. Minimal percussion and a stinging off kick hat pattern provide the groove, while distant chords hit steadily in the background. Premiesku continues to keep the genre of minimal interesting with their various soundscapes and dub textures.

The trio will also be releasing their third EP this year Monday, December 8th on Desolat. A very strong platform for Premiesku to push their sound and grow as their collective techno collaboration.
