While both the Scottish and Italian artists are fantastic in the studio in their own right, Visitors – Projections combines their prowess as producers to form a transcendental techno journey filled with haunting atmosphere, emotive structures and spatial ambience.

We caught up with Tony ahead of the ten-track release to discuss his collaboration with Antonio, Scotland’s techno scene, the influence of technology on the production of techno over the last few decades and more. With The Techno Traveler Map You’ll Never Be Lost Again

Screen Shot 2016-11-16 at 2.08.38 PM

Matthieu Rodrigues has come up with an interesting idea for even the most discerning of techno travelers: the techno traveler map.

The user-submitted map aims to track down all key techno venues around the world, pinning them on a map for easy finding. If you’ve ever found yourself in a foreign country with some hours to spare and unsure where to party, the Techno Traveler Map is the tool you can use to locate the nearest rave or event.

This is particularly useful in countries where events are so organized they are not even on Resident Advisor. Some examples include Phonoteque in Uraguay, Temple Nairobi in Kenya and The Observatory in Vietnam among the more popular known choices such as Output in NYC, Berghain/Panorama Bar in Berlin, Rex Club in Paris and DUDE Club in Milano.

Q&A: Simina Grigoriu on Her Forthcoming “Shook Up” EP, Newfound Motherhood and more

Simina_Grigoriu_Artist_Image_03_web

‘Shook Up’ is the latest EP from Romanian-born, Toronto-raised and Berlin-based producer Simina Grigoriu. Scheduled for release in digital format on October 21st, 2016 via the recently launched label Kuukou (which means “airport” in Japanese), the EP consists of one stunning techno bomb titled ‘Shook Up’.

with lush synths and pulsating bass lines, fused with a dark atmosphere which sets the mood for the entire release. The EP remains dynamic and diverse thanks to 4 reworks from Animal & Me, Autotune, Julian Wasserman and Original Peter, all exploring different sides of the same track, thus revealing the complexity and intricacy of Simina’s work.

Simina was kind enough to allow us to premiere ‘Shook Up” ahead of tomorrow’s release, and to chat with us a little about her career and newly-found motherhood.

5 Essential Tunes with… One Track Brain

“”5 Essential Tunes with…” is a feature on 6AM that explores underground dance music artist’s current favorite tracks, in an effort to showcase the best productions currently making the rounds in the world of techno, house, tech house and deep house.”

We did not choose One Track Brain to be interviewed for our first installment of this feature by chance. We found irony in asking an artist whose name in and of itself focuses on “one track” to select his current five favorite tunes, and were more than curious to see what the results would be.

Play Sven Marquardt In This New Berghain Card Game

Screen Shot 2016-10-07 at 7.44.57 AM

It seems that everybody wants to know how to get into the elusive Berghain, dubbed by many established publications as the hardest club to get into in the entire world.

Those attempting to get into the Berlin club plan ahead, working to perfect their strategy to ensure that Sven Marquardt, the club’s head bouncer, and his team allow them in. Arrival time, attire, facial expression, arriving in a group versus solo, etc. are all taken into consideration when planning a visit to the techno venue. We evaluated all of those factors when we partied in Berlin for 24 hours straight last month, getting into the club successfully as a result.

You might remember how earlier this year the often-frustrating Berghain door experience was turned into a simulation game. Well now it has also been translated into a card game. The catch? The roles are switched and you play Sven’s position rather than that of the club-goer attempting to be granted access to the club.

Berghain ze Game has players act as bouncers of the notorious club, and places you in Sven’s position. Specifically, the game’s creators specify that, “your job is to let the right people into legendary Berlin techno club Berghain. Take turns as the most powerful man in Germany and learn more about gay culture in the process!”

Of course the cards that come in the deck allow for a variety of differing characters, drawing inspiration from the diverse crowd that visits the high-culture venue each weekend. Included are a ketamine head, clueless tourist and of course a leather-clad patron or two.

Want to play the game? Help launch it via the Kickstarter campaign that is about to go live. You can view the promotional video and stay up to date on the Kickstarter launch date via Berghain ze Game’s Instagram page:

Bon Iver Played a Techno Set in Berlin Over the Weekend [Videos]

Justin Vernon

Bon Iver and techno? The pairing shouldn’t surprise anyone who has been following the American indie folk band’s recent exploits.

In fact, the group’s latest album, 22, A Million, was heavily influenced by a Roland synthesizer, as the band’s multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer Justin Vernon told the world last month. Their love for the sound went a step further during last weekend’s Michelberg Music a two-day music and visual arts event Vernon himself collaborated on alongside the National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner and the Michelberger Hotel in Berlin.

On the first day of the event the singer linked up with members of the Teenage Engineering team, who created the OP-1 Portable Synthesizer used in Bon Iver‘s last album, to perform a special live techno and house set.

Listen to Eric Prydz’s New Two Track EP, Released Under Cirez D Moniker

Cirez D

2016 has been prolific for Eric Prydz. The Swedish producer and DJ released a debut album earlier in the year and has now released his second Cirez D EP in just as many months.

The artist, who is known for his ability to produce track after track and for his vast catalogue of unreleased work, is back with ‘Backlash’ and ‘The Tournament,’ two pieces that fit perfectly under Cirez D’s sound umbrella.

Both tracks ooze the type of driving, relentless and apothic techno that Eric has become known for producing under the alias.

The EP is out now on Beatport. You can listen to both tracks below:

Premiere: “Perfection” by Drumcomplex

Drumcomplex_Artist_Image_1_Web

On the 16th of August, DĂŒsseldorf’s Drumcomplex graced the decks of Space Ibiza’s covered terrace for Carl Cox’s Last Chapter summer of his Music Is Revolution residency. Before that, the techno duo project played gigs in Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, UAE, India and of course their home country of Germany.

Brothers Daniel and Arnd Reichow divide the Drumcomplex workload, allowing for a perfect balance of work and relax. While Daniel, armed with a sound engineering degree, handles the professional record production output, Arnd takes the project on the road for gigs on the weekend. As a team, they have successfully released on Intec, Bush Records, MB Electronics, Complexed Records and KMS, gaining the support of techno giants like Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Slam, Paco Osuna, Joseph Capriati, Danny Tenaglia, Marco Carola and The Advent.

This coming October 7th Drumcomplex are poised to step things up with the release of Perfection Is In Imperfection, an eleven-track LP out on Complexed Ltd. The album is inspired by a Japanese philosophy that underscores the appreciation of imperfection, based on the notion that nothing is truly finished, perfect or lasts forever.

Yet, the aptly-named album seems to suggest that the duo find perfection in every imperfection. We had the chance of chatting with Arnd ahead of the release, who also was kind enough to allow us to premiere the second track of the LP entitled “Perfection.”

Your album title Perfection Is In Imperfection is in itself a kind of oxymoron. Can you explain how you came up with it?

Perfection Is In Imperfection is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi, a concept which focuses on the appreciation of imperfection, things that are simple, rough, or incomplete. Wabi-sabi nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect. I am a spiritual person and thats exactly how I see things, it’s not only music wise.

Is there a track on this album that you consider perfect?

That’s a really good question. When I have to choose one its Aphrodite.

Can techno ever be perfect?

I don’t think so. Techno for me came from punk music, a music which never used to be perfect. When you listen to a vinyl it will never sound “perfect”  — there are always crackles.

Drumcomplex_Artist_Image_3_Web

Is there a techno DJ that you consider “perfect,” an act that particularly inspires you in your career?

Yes for sure. There were lots of great artists who inspired me and surprised me with different styles and approaches to music. To name just a few, Speedy J, Chemical Bros, Underworld, Placebo, Metallica
I wasn’t especially into a specific kind of style. I just love energetic artists and performances.

What would be your perfect gig?

I had this perfect gig this summer when i played at Carl Cox’s Music Is Revolution at Space Ibiza. The treatment, the audience, the crew and the atmosphere were absolutely amazing. The level was really high, it’s hard to top this. When I think about what can be my perfect gig, it would be to play on a beach with a lot of friends when the sun rises, laying down some deeper stuff.
