“Ever wanted to go to Berghain with a Berliner? Airbnb could soon help to make that happen”

No we are not making this up: Airbnb seriously thinks they can pair travelers up with Berliners for the ultimate clubbing experience inside Berghain/Panorama Bar.

The San Francisco tech giant is rolling out a new service soon which will focus on on allowing Berliners to offer “experiences” to those visiting the city as tourists. Nathan Blecharczyk, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Airbnb, stated Friday that Berliners on Airbnb will be able to welcome visitors to the city as well as curious locals on paid experiences, beginning this coming May. These experiences will supposedly include going out for drinks and clubbing.

The app’s offerings are expanding, added Blecharczyk, “We’re really repositioning Airbnb as a platform for the entire trip.” According to his speech to entrepreneurs and tech workers at the Factory hub in the German City, soon Airbnb will aim to offer flights and other travel services through its app. The experiences idea isn’t new for Airbnb, with the company offering the service in 13 other cities throughout the world. The plan is to expand this to a total of 51 cities by the end of 2017, exponentially growing the list of experiences provided from the current number of 700 available through the app.

The billionaire explained how currently travelers can use the company’s experiences feature to go foraging for mushrooms, hiking, marathon training in Nairobi, or cycling in San Francisco. “Our most popular one [city] so far is Havana, Cuba,” he added. “You go to Havana and it’s really hard to get plugged into the local scene or know how to find things and experience the culture. It’s really a bi-directional thing. It’s not just a way to make money. It’s a way to meet people.”

It’s unclear how exactly Airbnb seems to intend to guarantee guests entry into Berghain, a feat considering the club’s door policy and the reason it exists in the first place is to prevent this type of situation from occurring. While a Berghain experience seems a little questionable, it’s entirely possible for Airbnb experiences to offer a more realistic clubbing experience in the city, with plenty of other options to choose from on any given weekend night.

After all, it happens to almost everyone to get turned away from Berghain at least once, and it hardly ever means that the party stops there!

Music Monday: Listen to Thomas Hessler’s Guest Mix for Deep Space Helsinki

Good morning and welcome back to our weekly appointment with Music Monday, the 6AM feature where we feature to you our favorite live set recording or mix from the weekend.

Today we present to you two hours of top-notch techno soundscapes mixed by Thomas Hessler. Born and raised in East Germany, the producer and DJ has already graced the sound system of esteemed clubbing institutions the likes of Berghain, Tresor and Bassiani, delivering intense and atmospheric journeys of techno.

Thomas is featured on the 30th and latest edition of Deep Space Helsinki, a record label and weekly radio show on Basso Radio FM frequency 102,4 MHz in the Helsinki area hosted by Samuli Kemppi and Juho Kusti. Q&A and Premiere: Markus Suckut To Release “Resist” Album on EXILE

Markus Suckut is a producer and DJ that cannot be pigeon-holed. His personal history with music begins back in 1999 when the then young Markus first discovered electronic music and began experimenting with various musical directions, spurred on by the excitement of DJing and the exploration of new sounds. It did not take long for him to find his niche in techno, and in particular with the dub side of the genre.

Just as his productions are, his sets reach wide in the spectrum of techno, characterized by an allure of dreaminess and a penchant for melancholy and thought-provoking sounds.

On March 7th Markus is slated to release Resist, a nine-track album coming out on his own EXILE imprint, which he runs with Johannes Heil. Heil talked about the album, which follows releases on Rekids, SCKT, Figure and new alias Tales Of The Machines:

It is a big temptation – whilst striving to place oneself on the map – to favor and repeat established structures and norms in order to gain fortune, fame and power. To cripple a work of art under pressure of commercial success and to trade the uniqueness of a creative spark for an egoistic idea means using a calculating mind to overrule art and emotions. But this pulse of an artist is not his mind but his heart with which he exposes his energy and vibration through frequencies. For this reason there is only one way which retains the creation in its innocent spontaneous form in order to stay true to its inspirational core. The Path Of Resistance!

The DGTL Revolution: Leading The Way In Festival Sustainability

Dustin Zahn: A Career Carved Out of Hard Work, Tenacity and Persistence

Dustin Zahn’s various biographies on the internet do not contain any particularly alluring or exciting background stories, leaving me to wonder if it’s out of choice or simply because, as one particular bio states, “there are no breakthrough moments or mentors who have taken him under their wing.”

It does not take me long though, to realize that perhaps Dustin’s story is one that simply mirrors his Midwestern upbringing: a career carved out by nearly two decades of hard work, tenacity and persistence. There is no denying that since 1998 his output in the studio and behind the decks have gained him international notoriety and respect within the techno scene and beyond, all thanks to a sound that embodies diversity and quality as its primary attributes.

Born in Wisconsin, Dustin first discovered electronic music and his love for techno in Minneapolis, where he grew up after moving as a child. Although Minneapolis’ techno history is rich, Dustin relocated to Berlin after the turn of the century to further his goals as a producer, DJ and to head his own Enemy Records imprint. He has been performing regularly at some of the most reputable clubs and festivals in the world since, with a few dark warehouses and beach parties sprinkled in between. On top of releasing on his own label he has had tracks come out on Drumcode, REK’D, CLR, Mindshake, Truesoul and more, always striving to produce and play music that is both dark and groovy, seamlessly blurring genres to create a signature, hypnotic sound that isn’t common amongst other artists. He has also launched the fantastic Train Wreck podcast, a talk-show series that sees him chat with house and techno artists from all over the world over a glass or two, discussing music industry related topics as well as more personal stories, opinions and daily-life anecdotes from the DJs and producers themselves.

On March 11th Dustin is returning to the Los Angeles underground for WORK‘s first collaboration of the year with Incognito, a warehouse affair that sees him billed with Smartbar Chicago and Oktave resident Jeff Derringer, as well as LA’s very own JIA and Gerard Not Gerald. We had a chat with him ahead of his visit to talk about what he has been up to and what lays ahead in the years to come.

Global Vibe Radio Podcast Episode 048 feat. MonoPhaze

This 48th edition of our Global Vibe Radio podcast series comes from producer and DJ Lapo Boccianti, aka MonoPhaze, one of Italy’s up-and-coming underground dance music acts.

Based in Florence, he just released “Beyond Home”, a two-track EP out on John Norman’s UNT Records. The original is from the young Italian, and the remix comes from label boss John Norman himself. We interviewed him last month for the occasion, touching base on his Italian roots, love for house and techno and more.

Lapo has also released under the moniker Sid85, his work featured on labels such as Mashpotato Records, Anonymous and Subwoofer.

Q&A and Premiere: Tunnel Releases “Rave / Movement” Double EP on Webuildmachines

Tunnel is a Chicago producer, DJ, label-head and Noisefloor party curator that has been sculpting a new wave of techno in Chicago — a city best known for its house music roots and legacy.

Unlike many other DJ and live acts, Tunnel exclusively performs his own original material or that of the ever-growing electronic music label he launched in 2013, Webuildmachines. The imprint has been the home of some fantastic releases, with support and high praise from established members of the techno community the likes of  Paula Temple, Dave Clarke, Surgeon, Ben Sims, Tommy Four Seven, drumcell, Electric Indigo, and Claude Young. A Tunnel original track was also featured on Richie Hawtin’s Essential Mix recorded live at Exchange in Los Angeles last year.

Saeed Younan Discusses His New “Annihilate” EP, His Relationship With Carl Cox and the War in Iraq He Fled

Saeed Younan is one of the United States’ top acts, a DJ and producer that enjoys prolific tour and release schedules alike with tracks out on Incorrect Music, VIVa Music, Suara, his own Younan Music, and of course Carl Cox’s iconic Intec label, a brand with which he has been associated for a couple of years now.

Based in the nation’s capital of Washington D.C., Saeed is a popular headliner with gigs around the world, from Ibiza to Tokyo and countless countries in between, where he delivers high-energy performances that marry tribal sounds with techy synth work and alluring vocal hooks.

Saeed returns to Cox’s Intec for his upcoming release, having debuted on the imprint back in 2015. His Annihilate EP begins with the title track, a bassline-heavy affair carried over by a rolling groove that leads to a crescendo of hi-hats and ultimately the vocals that give the track its name. The second track that completes the package, “Pimp Slap,” is more along Saeed’s famed sound, filled with synth sounds and captivating vocal snippets.

source book 1 is a visual catalog of the imprint’s various releases and projects since 1996. While Raster-noton didn’t technically release music until 1999, its two parent labels Rastermusic and noton.archiv fĂŒr ton und nichtton were both started in 1996.
