Q&A and 6AM Guest Mix with Lindsey Herbert

Coming up as a fixture in the San Francisco techno scene via her residency with Robot Ears, and a recent tour schedule that has taken her music internationally for the first time. I guess we can say it hasn’t been just another year for Lindsey Herbert – it’s been the year.

Whether it’s sharing stages with some of the biggest names in techno or making debut appearances at dance music’s most famed venues, her past 12 months have been nothing short of unbelievable. Excited about her upcoming hometown appearance in Los Angeles on August 4th alongside Tommy Four Seven and Ansome, we caught up with her to discuss a recent string of shows overseas, politics in dance music and what playing in the birthplace of techno during movement week has been like.

And to top it off, Lindsey was nice enough to allow us to feature her set from her recent gig at Gate in Batumi, Georgia. Enjoy the mix and exclusive chat below!

Premiere: Belgium’s Tom Hades Drops Four-Track EP on the Eclectic Dutch Planet Rhythm Imprint

As we undertake our journey through the second half of 2018, so does Belgian producer and DJ Tom Hades, whose recent musical output has been nothing short of extraordinary. So far he has released solo EPs on OFF Recordings and Loose Records whilst also pushing out remixes for imprints such a SUBFIGURE, Unknown Territory and Filth On Acid.

Setting his sights on his next solo EP, Tom looks towards the Netherlands based Planet Rhythm to release the 4-tracker. Established in 1994, Planet Rhythm has consistently played an important role in the discovery of new and emerging Techno acts, releasing producers such as Matrixxman, Woo York amongst many more. Instilling a philosophy that ‘Techno is too big of a concept to limit itself to one approach’, it’s clear to see how Tom Hades fits alongside the current catalogue of artists.

Premiere: Detroit’s Uun Releases Limited Number Cassette EP on Modern Cathedrals

Exhumed Tapes II is the second in a multi-artist series of cassette releases on the Modern Cathedrals label. With label art featuring small details of “important graves,” the series will dig into eery, broken beat techno with gritty textures.

The second tape features four tracks by Detroit-based artist Uun, whose work on the EP builds from careful and subdued atmospheres to aggressive percussion-driven tracks. In keeping with the themes of the series, the label art once again features the grave of an author chosen by the artist.

The release will be limited to 50 hand-numbered physical copies, but is also available for digital purchase via Beatport.

Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 113 Feat. Christian Smith

It’s Movement Detroit weekend, so we found it fitting to invite one of this year’s performing artists to the Global Vibe Radio decks.

Christian Smith is one of the world’s leading exponents of techno, as a DJ, a producer and founder of the well-respected Tronic label. You can catch him playing at the festival this coming Saturday. May 26th, when he will be performing at the Pyramid Stage at 7:30pm.

Tronic needs no introduction for those who have followed dance music for the last 20 or so years. Since its inception back in 1994, Christian Smith has founded a label that constantly delivers top techno tracks year after year. Not only does he run the label, but also has his long-standing Tronic radio show, which is syndicated in more than over 100 countries worldwide.

Known and loved for its albums, Tronic released the very first of its kind with a collaboration-only project in 2017 entitled Synergy. This June the label will be releasing a full Synergy remix package to the world including re-works by Shall Ocin, Petter B, Oliver Deutschmann and more — a release filled with their heavy hitting, synthetic soundscapes and intricate percussive elements.
