Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 137 Feat. Jon Hester

This week’s Global Vibe Radio mix is a 3 hour 20 minute set courtesy of Dystopian and Klockworks producer/DJ Jon Hester, recorded live at an intimate party at an undisclosed location.

Jon Hester got his start in the midwest US, living in Chicago, Minneapolis, and connecting with Detroit. After years on the dance floor he took to the decks, going on to work in a record shop, host his own events, and hold residencies that developed his sound. Music production and a move to Berlin followed, but dancing and mixing are still the inspirations that drive him to create. His DJ sets are built on physical rhythms and adventurous programming, effortlessly combining diverse varieties of techno and house. With an engaging presence and a knack for telling a story, he builds a unique connection with each audience and works any room until it sweats.

Jon’s latest release is the four-track Aether EP which was released on LET Recordings this past December and is available on the label’s Bandcamp page.

OBSERVE: A New Techno Beginning in Los Angeles Starting November 24th

For the last 15 years, Droid Behavior and their INTERFACE event series have become synonymous with Los Angeles’ now-thriving techno scene.

There is no doubt that the two brands have been at the forefront of the LA techno world, pushing a sound that was once widely rejected in the city. The team built something great out of nothing, pouring blood, sweat and tears to overcome obstacles, doubters and resistance to build a foundation upon which all techno events in Los Angeles have been built since.

At 6AM we recognize the crucial role INTERFACE events have had in the creating of the techno scene in this city, a scene which makes it possible for us to contribute with our own events today. In fact, most of us at 6AM can directly pinpoint to the exact INTERFACE event that set us down this techno road we are still enjoying today. For us, it was these events that directly lead us to fall in love with techno and, as a result, want to work in this industry.

As drumcell and Truncate announced today via social media, while Droid currently remains dormant for an unforeseeable future, a portion of the crew behind those revolutionary events has decided to move forward with a new vision and a new project: OBSERVE.

With its newest release, Jannowitz Records is sticking to the tried and true. Dub Space is an EP compiled of four weapons, and the original creators of these weapons are no others than Maksim Dark and Diatonik.

Both have been part of the label for quite some time, with Maksim making his first appearance in 2016 (remixing Joseph Disco’s “Bodymoves”) and Diatonik in 2017 (remixing Touchtalk’s “Rescue”). Since then, both have become regulars on the labels, working closely together with Jannowitz label head BOHO and being two of the main players ensuring the imprint’s success.

Now they’ve joined forces to create what can easily be the heaviest release this year. Because if you’ve followed both artists you may know that they’re known for proper techno, driving beats, strong kicks, progressive sound, and a futuristic vibe.
