The Wayward Mysticism of Dan Noël’s Monsieur Reve Album

12043119_1006137002770386_8303608910107694599_n

Between Swiss born-and-bred producer Dan Noël and El Paso’s Draft Label comes the newly released Monsieur Reve album. While the name elicits images of a little blue French cloud from many childhoods, Monsieur Reve is a sensual sequence of deep tribal tech equivalent to immersing oneself into an antiquated book of grand and mystical tales of yonder. The nine lofty tracks on the album situate the listener into a perpetual state of hypnagogia, traversing between states of dreaming and mindfulness and grappling between the desire to chill or to dance for an eternity.

The title track, Monsieur Reve, is mood-setting and transcendental, a personal favorite that I would recommend checking out. The musical aesthetic of Dan Noël is in good company with the likes of M.A.N.D.Y., Pan-Pot, and other tastemakers of the techno and house cross-pollination.

Monsieur Reve (Draft075) is available for purchase through Beatport and iTunes (available in the US starting September 28). You can also stream a preview of each track below.

ADE 2015: Must See Tech House Artists

No matter how hard you may try or how much you would want to, it’d be impossible catch all your favorite tech house artists within five days at ADE 2015. With over 2,000 artists from around the world playing at more than 450 events in the city, you’d be scrambling around the streets of Amsterdam like a chicken without it’s head trying to cross DJ’s off your list.

With so many options at ADE, it’s undeniable that it can be an overwhelming task trying to pick your must see artists. That’s where we come in. We’ve prepared a list of must see tech house acts for your ADE experience. Being that the sub genre’s of music are never ending and the sub genre tech house within itself can be divided into a billion other sub-sub genres, we’ve chosen six artists that broadly cover the whole spectrum of everything that we love about the techno-house infused goodness. Martin Roth (Anjunadeep)

John Monkman – Rolling Frontier ft. Liz Cass (Martin Roth Remix)

This remix of John Monkman’s Rolling Frontier includes rolling kicks, ephemeral clicks, and uplifting vocals by Liz Cass. Seven minutes of pure bliss, a composition of sounds that makes you want to push the sky upward and traverse into a transcendental realm of existence.

Martin Roth – Mel

This track titled Mel is dark and hypnotic, an alluring contrast of droning synths and a tight drum set that metamorphoses between states of meditation and invigoration. This track is an example of Martin Roth’s ability to produce wordless stories by appealing to the primordial human response to music.

Metrika (Crosstown Rebels)

Metrika and Bastard Love – As A Fiction (Original Mix)

As A Fiction is a romantic alliteration of all things deep. This tune will make you want to dance your socks off with its 80s retro meets tech house vibes. Indeed, a song that is trippier than fiction and gets the brain juices flowing with nostalgia. Let’s get funky.

Matt Hardinge (Motek)

Ominous ft. Cari Golden – Shattered (Matt Hardinge Remix)

An orchestra of live instrument samples and artificial sound waves, Matt Hardinge’s remix of Shattered is a galactic deep techno interpretation executed with the warm sounds of the classic 808 drum machine. Cari Golden’s vocals are a celestial integration to the cerebral landscape reminiscent of older forms of trance.

Navitas (Motek)

Navitas – Run To Me (Original Mix)

Navitas brings a touch of energizing magic with Run To Me, an adventurous mood-setting track for those seeking a speedy escape from reality. The track’s tribal ascendance and four-on-the-floor beat give a lofty push in directing and sustaining a unified movement of the underground spirit.

J.Sanders (BWO Records, 6AM)

J.Sanders – Cloudtricks (Original Mix)

Organic and inorganic percussion interact to create a complex system of sensations and thoughts in Cloudtricks. The second piece to J.Sanders’ Ellipse EP serves as a deep tech manifestation of the calculative chaos of the natural environment around us. A humbling listening experience.

Jamie Charles (Motek, Draft, 6AM)

Jamie Charles – Counter Culture (Original Mix)

A forthright piece to the self-titled Counter Culture EP, this track is majestically bohemian. It tickles the rudimental feelings of musical wanderlust, paving a path of unguided exploration with its rumbling kicks, intermittent psychedelic chants, and crystalline echoes.

Dubfire and Audiofly remix Hot Since 82

HS82_04

While everyone is hot on the trail with a week left before Burning Man, Hot Since 82 gets the deep playa tech house treatment courtesy of Dubfire with a remix of Leave Me and an Audiofly remix of Sundown. The Dubfire Playa Remix of Hot Since 82 and Habischman’s Leave Me is both enigmatic and alluring with its hypnagogic synths, visceral vocals, and tribal drum lines. The Audiofly touchup of Sundown beacons a psychedelic awakening, a tune that elicits powerful thoughts while watching the sunrise on the Playa.

The 2-track release is hot off the press from Moda Black, a forward-thinking UK-based record label, that dabbles in the worldly sounds of house and techno. Dubfire’s Playa Remix is an unusual one-off that works because it is completely relevant to the Burner vibes manifesting all around.

The remixes are available for purchase on Beatport, iTunes, and 12″ vinyl direct from Moda Black, or you can stream below for a good listening.

Dance Spirit Releases Four-Track EP on Kindisch

Dance Spirit Reflections

After releasing a full length album and various EP’s on imprints such as Motek and Superfreq this year, Dance Spirit steps up again with an ethereal four-track EP on Kindisch. Reflections features four original tracks, two of which are collaborations with artists Mia Lucci and Jon Charnis, and follows through on the sound that Dance Spirit has come to know so well.

Reflections achieves a cohesive theme comprised of organic tones and textures, and moves steadily at a comfortable and hypnotic pace. The title track, Reflection, starts the EP in between a balance of synthetic and natural ambiance. Flowing easily from the droning percussions and space within the mix, Reflection strikes a satisfying sonic feeling leading into the next few tracks.

Affirmation is up next where Dance Spirit has collaborated with Jon Charnis for a distant yet groovy tech affair. Piano and string hits capture ones attention while the drum programming keeps things in place allowing the track to evolve and grow throughout the journey.

Contemplation sounds like a dance-able track that could appear on a movie score. Thought provoking ambiance and tension is a dominant theme, but like Affirmation the track stays in it’s groove due to precise drums throughout the arrangement.
