Subjected: 10 Ambient Selections

Intimate Silence return this August with an album from Vault Series founder Subjected featuring eight ambient cuts entitled ā€˜Opera Scenes’, from which ourselves premiered the brilliant “Opera Scene VII (The Origin of Life)”.

Subjected has been an important figure within Berlin’s techno community in the last ten years with his Vault Series and Subjected System imprints playing host to some of the genres most exciting names. His recent releases on ARTS, Stoor, Vault Series and self-titled label showcases his vast exploration into the realms of ambient soundscapes and atmospheric techno with a hint of post-industrial influence. ā€˜Opera Scenes’ sees Subjected serve up his third LP to date joining Silent-One’s Intimate Silence label following the likes of Głós, Thomas Hessler, KAS:ST, PVNV, Dold and Pär Grindvik.

We recently asked Subjected to share 10 of his key ambient selections with us, and to explain the reasoning behind each of his choice.

Boards of Canada – Amo Bishop Roden

One of the most beautiful tracks in the world. BOC 4 EVER!

Blind old Freak / Alessandro Cortini – Everything ends here

Alessandro Cortini is one of my heroes since day one. He“s the influence why I produced PICTURES FROM THE AFTERMATH. This collaboration with synth guru Don Buchla is a true masterpiece.

Pictures from the Aftermath – Opera Scene II (Losing our unconsciousness)

The first track, which I produced for the opus. The initial point of no return. At this point I realized that I have to do a whole LP and PICTURES FROM THE AFTERMATH was born.

Max Richter – Landscape with figure (1922)

The neoklassik / post minimalism is strongly connected to me with ambient and other electronica. What Max Richter is doing is the best example. Goosebumps.

Clin Mansell – The last man

No more words to say.

Dustin OĀ“Halloran – We move slightly

O“Halloran shows us how a piano has to sound. Neoklassik, ambient, post minimalism? We don“t know.

SPDJ x SBJCTD – stds_15_v2

This one I produced with techno mastermind Speedy J. One SH-101 sequenced a Prophet 5, one wogglebugged modular systems, some field recordings of a dutch kindergarten and Speedy J + Subjected on the knobs. That“s it.

Deadmau5 – Bleed

A very popular and successful EDM artist, who claims for itself, that he has no musical theory skills, but his ambient and piano tracks are out from this world. Here“s one example:

TrentmĆøller – Miss you

MASTERPIECE

Aphex Twin – Aisatsana [102]

Last but not least. AFX can still do some ambient / piano tracks. This one is wonderful.

In Interview with Subjected

Vault Series founder Subjected released his sophomore album entitled MotherĀ on his Subjected Systems label featuring ten ambient, leftfield and techno cuts this March.

An essential figure within Berlin’s techno scene, Subjected has released on ARTS, the enigmatic STOOR and his very own Vault Series. Subjected Systems is a newer project which has so far hosted two releases, one from Transient X4 and another collaborative effort between Subjected and Andrejko.

The label showcases a post-industrial era, that keeps ties to the underground scene that gave birth to it but signals its occupation of a different realm than its predecessor. Subjected now returns with his second album for the label’s third release. Entitled Mother, the longplayer came to fruition after Subjected became a father himself – inspired by processing the changes that were not only happening around him, but to his partner and a new life.

We took the opportunity to speak to Martin, as he is known to friends and family, to talk about the labels, the release ofĀ MotherĀ and more.

Premiere: STRISCTRX Welcomes Subjected, Riemann, main(void) and Label Boss STRISC. For V/A Compilation EP

STRISCTRX returns for a booming fifth installment, welcoming Subjected, Riemann and main(void) to the helm as well as label chief STRISC.

Subjected kicks things off with his breed of distinctly deep identifiable techno with a blistering peak time track. Track 2 brings the dystopian and distorted analogue techno sound from Riemann aka Florian Meindl, an eery ferocious 8 minute journey. Tides from main(void) is a percussive affair, combining pulsing loops with a rousing kick drum and high hat. The EP concludes with STRISC’s Seclusion, an exhilarating dose of powerful techno characterized by the kick drum and intricate analogue effects.
