Richie Hawtin’s ENTER Leaves Ibiza

Enter

This morning we were hit with the news that as of this season, Richie Hawtin’s ENTER is leaving Space Ibiza and the island. This means that Space, which has already seen Carl Cox announce its departure after the coming season, will most likely be hosting a new concept party on Thursdays as of summer 2016.

The real motives behind the decision are not entirely evident from Hawtin’s Facebook post where he announced the move, but speculation has it that it may be due to Space being bought out by the group that owns Ushuaïa across the street. Space Ibiza’s long-time owners and manager, in particular Pepe Rosello, had built strong ties of friendship with many of the club’s residents over the years and it’s unclear whether this has any bearing on the party moves for both ENTER and Cox’s Revolution.

Hawtin does clarify that ENTER is not ending, but rather the project “will continue to explore site specific events around the world based upon our core principles: Music. Sake. Technology. Experience.”

Carl Cox has announced that Ushuaïa will take over Space Ibiza in 2017

p18qaslnqp435k0a7is6pd1js38In light of Carl Cox’s announcement that he will end his residency at Space Ibiza after next summer, he has revealed that Ushuaïa Group will be taking over the property after the owner of Space Ibiza Pepe Rosello’s contract ends in 2016.

He broke the news ahead of speaking at the Asia-Pacific Electronic Music Conference in Sydney, which will take place in December.

Carl Cox has built up a legacy over the span of fifteen years at Space, and he is stepping down in order to preserve this legacy with Pepe. He says that he has “no desire to stay in that club for any reason” when Jan, the manager of Ushuaïa, steps in. “If Pepe’s not there, I am not there. We grew up together, we’ve been all the way through this together, and we’re going to finish together. And I’m quite happy about that, because it means we leave the legacy of a club that made a difference.”

Carl Cox has announced that 2016 will be his final season of his legendary night, Revolution at Space Ibiza. It is undeniable that the man essentially helped build Space in to the powerhouse  that it is today. While this is certainly a shock for most, some might have predicted this day to come as Carl have recently been very vocal about how the island’s rich history and vibe has been spoiled by “VIP culture” and how Ibiza is no longer a place where people can afford to make the most of their money as you need a lot to enjoy it. In a recent quote from Mixmag, Carl Cox comments about his decision to end ties with the iconic club brand after next season:

“The thing is, all good things come to an end. It’s common knowledge that the owners of Ushuaia [and Space] want to turn Space into Ushuaia Club. Whether it’s a good or bad thing, I don’t want to be a part of it. It’s got nothing to do with me. If I re-contract myself to do Ushuaia Club at Space, potentially, what do I do? What would they want me to do? Either carry on doing what I’ve been doing for 15 years or wise up to what the future holds” – Carl Cox

Carl Cox’ role at Space as a DJ, promoter, host, programmer and entertainer is clear proof of his legendary status. It is safe to say that the 15 week Revolution at Space Ibiza will be the event to watch for next Summer as every night will be special according to Cox. We can only imagine what the closing party will entail as the final beats drop for what will sure be a memorable and emotional end.
