Red Bull Studios Paris Session with KiNK

Red Bull Studios Paris Session with KiNK

Who doesn’t like free music? Fans of Bulgarian producer KiNK can now enjoy his latest EP, recorded in Paris’s Red Bull Studios, for free.

The artist, known for his impressive live performances, is now the eight artist to put out a free EP produced at the Red Bull Studios, on the footsteps of producers such as Pépé Bradock, Tom Trago, Svengalisghost and Feadz.

“I made a conscious decision to limit myself,” he confides, “and to use only what I could find in the studio to compose and record. I only brought two of my very favorite machines with me: an Acidlab Drumatix to make beats with and a Leploop – which I always bring on tour with me anyway – to make all these weird noises. Among the many instruments that were on-site, I picked a Rhodes MK 1 piano, a Moog Voyager, an acoustic drum kit and a clutch of vintage analogue effects, like the Mu-Tron Bi-Phase.

The goal was simple: to compose, record and mix three track in five days. It was a very intense experience, the clock was ticking and I had to learn how to play instruments that were new to me. So in short I had to quickly bound out of my comfort zone, which did me a world of good. None of this would have been possible without Rachel Row, who sang and played a couple of piano chords, and the studio’s sound engineer JĂ©rome Caron, who gave me quite a bit of help with the arrangements.”

The EP is some brilliant KiNK work, the ultimate result of a true and long improv session rather than strict programming. With “Naive” listeners experience jazz-tinged electro-pop nugget carried by Rachel Row’s voice, a regular collaborator of the Bulgarian artist. On the other hand, “French Affair” is a more club-ready and instrumental-filled house track, both combining for a strong EP that is pure KiNK classic.

The whole EP has been made available as a free download via SoundCloud below:

Is SoundCloud Really Worth $1 Billion?

SoundCloud money

Following news last month that Twitter reached an agreement with SoundCloud for an investment of $70 million, it is now being reported that the music streaming company is seeking a buyer for an estimated $1 billion.

When the Twitter cash infusion story broke mid-June, experts believed that the funding valued SoundCloud at about $700 million — the same value that investors placed on the company in 2014 when it raised $60 million. According to Bloomberg, however, SoundCloud is now looking to sell for $1 billion.

The publication cites “people familiar with the matter,” affirming that SoundCloud’s investors and founders are exploring ways to reach a sale. The business news outlet states that other sources have confirmed SoundCloud’s interest in finding a buyer, reporting that the music company has been having difficulties finding someone willing to pay $1 billion for the business although talks of a sale have been ongoing now for some time.

Is the streaming platform really worth $1 billion and will they find a buyer willing to match that evaluation? The company reported $44 million losses for 2014, specifying that “in the three years from 2012-2014, SoundCloud lost almost €75m – but only brought in €37m in income.”

A SoundCloud representative declined to comment.

Listen To A 45-Minute Unreleased Ricardo Villalobos Tune

Richardo Villalobos

Ricardo Villalobos‘ “Bionic Sad” has popped up in the Chilean-German producer’s minimalistic sets for years now, eluding the most seasoned of record and vinyl searchers simply because it has never been released.

However, the 45-minute tune has now been uploaded to SoundCloud in full for your listening pleasure. The progression is as minimalistic as it gets, filled with rolling sounds and sparse vocals that comprise three-quarters of an hour of signature Villalobos beauty.

Listen to it now in its entirety before it’s taken down:

Twitter Is Investing $70 Million Into SoundCloud

Twitter SoundCloud

Although Twitter pulled out of a deal to buy SoundCloud in 2014, it is now reported that the social network giant has invested $70 million into the music streaming platform.

When discussing the investment deal, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey stated: “Earlier this year we made an investment in SoundCloud through Twitter Ventures to help support some of our efforts with creators. They’ve been great partners of ours over the years and their community-supported approach mirrors ours in many ways.”

This follows Twitter’s announcement that SoundCloud will now appear in and stream via Twitter Moments thanks to a deal struck in April. The move aims to allow curators to build specific playlists for specific tweets.

There is no public information that discusses the $70 million cash infusion at this time, although a statement from a SoundCloud spokesperson reads: “We can confirm that Twitter has made an investment in SoundCloud. Both companies facilitate and inspire contemporary culture to happen in real time while reaching millions of people around the world.

“This investment will enable SoundCloud to remain focused on building value for creators and listeners alike, and to continue the global rollout of many company initiatives such as our recently launched subscription service, SoundCloud Go.”

It is estimated that this funding round values SoundCloud at about $700 million — the same value that investors placed on the company in 2014, when it raised $60 million.

Freddy Be To Release “Holding Back” EP on Perspectives Digital

The latest and 41st release on Darin Epsilon’s Perspectives Digital comes courtesy of one of LA’s longstanding DJs and promoters, Freddy Be. If you’ve partied on the West Coast during the last two decades or are in any way involved with the house music industry in the United States, it is likely you’ve heard of Freddy’s infamous Monday Social parties, which celebrate their 20th year as North America’s longest running weekly house music event later in 2016.

Freddy has been an integral part of the house music scene since the early 90s, in no small part thanks to his superb skills as a track selector and his ability to play to a wide array of crowds and rooms. His residencies have included such esteemed venues as Exchange LA, Audio SF, and Sound Nightclub, his proficiency behind the decks also landing him playing time across the nation and at major festivals the likes of Coachella, Desert Hearts, BPM, and Minus Zero.

As a producer, Freddy Be has seen previous tracks receive play by Carl Cox, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela, Danny Howells, Sander Kleinenberg, Quivver, and John Digweed on his massively popular ‘Transitions’ radio show. It is on Digweed’s show that Freddy’s latest track, “Holding Back” was first introduced to the world. The track is finally receiving a much deserved official release with remixes by Betoko, Soul Trader, and Deep Tribe featuring Violin Girl.

The first re-work of the track comes from Betoko, who has taken the spacial original and added the touch that has seen his music released on Get Physical, Diynamic, Suara, Kittball, and Supernature. The result is a high-octane and dance-floor-ready remix perfect for peak-time play.

Next up, it’s Soul Trader‘s turn to offer his take on “Holding Back.” You wouldn’t be mistaken in not knowing much about the producer, for little has been said about him other than the limited info his mentor and cohort Funkagenda has given us. He has had a spectacular debut EP on Incorrect Music and has remixed for Quivver and Deep Tribe. His last touch sees him add deep, throbbing techno influenced sounds to Freddy Be’s original to great effect.

The last edit comes way of LA duo Deep Tribe featuring Violin Girl. Dimitry Rozental and Andrew Knopf add strong waves of brooding emotion to the tracl, transforming it into a beautiful, sensual and slow piece of music interspersed by powerful violin chord progressions.

The EP is set for release on Beatport this coming Friday May 27th, 2016. You can preview it below via SoundCloud:

Screen Shot 2016-05-20 at 10.52.26 AM

Techno and house and house fans rejoice!

With Movement’s 10th Anniversary just around the corner, 70+ day and after-parties to choose from and a plethora of artist playing the festival across three days and six stages, we decided that it’s time for the music to do the talking.

It’s likely that even the most seasoned of electronic music veteran is familiar with the more than 125 artists playing the festival this year, and it is for that reason that we decided to compile a special Movement Detroit 2016 Artist Playlist on SoundCloud for your use.

We scoured the entire SoundCloud platform for live sets and mixes from each artist playing in Hart Plaza on Memorial Day Weekend. We tried to post the most recent or telling piece of music compilation we could find for each name, in order to give listeners a fairly up-to-date understanding of the artist’s sound and what to expect from them in Detroit.

The result is a 119 track compilation incorporating over 165 hours of music organized in alphabetical order. Please be understanding that not every artist featured on the lineup had recent live sets or mixes available on the SoundCloud platform, while others had none at all.

We hope you enjoy it. Share the article with other friends making their pilgrimage to Detroit – music is love, and sharing is caring!

Oh and don’t forget to enter our contest for 2 GA tickets to the fest!

Is SoundCloud Making Moves to Delete and Block All Uncleared DJ Mixes?

Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 10.25.00 AM

Is SoundCloud slowly deleting all uncleared DJ mixes? It appears that may be the case.

According to Digital Music News, SoundCloud has made plans to delete all DJ mixes that haven’t been fully cleared yet, a move that is bound to affect a large portion of the files uploaded to the platform by its 185 million active users.

Users have now begun to notice massive amounts of DJ mixes disappearing from their playlists. Several high-profile users such as Morgan Page and L’Affaire Musicale have already had their entire accounts or uploads deleted, with SoundCloud making it clear that DJ mix or live sets contains popular tracks that belong to another artist will be deleted. If a music file is deleted, the user sees all the statistics racked up through that upload also disappear.

UPDATE: SoundCloud issued a statement today replying and denying that any measures have been taken to delete DJ sets off the platform. The statement reads:

“The story has no truth to it. At SoundCloud, we’re on a mission to create a place where all creativity can live. SoundCloud’s creator community, including DJs, is incredibly important to us.”
