#TBT Series: Relive Some Of The Best Frankie Knuckles Moments Caught on Video

The 31st of March is a special and bittersweet date for house music fans all over the world. I still remember exactly where I was in Chicago in 2014  when the city and the world were hit with the heart-breaking news that Frankie Knuckles, The Godfather of House, had passed away due to complications linked to a diabetes condition.

That date became significant for all House Music fans throughout the world, just as August 25th had been for a decade prior and continues to be today. In 2004, then Chicago Mayor Richard Daley declared August 25th to be Frankie Knuckles Day. Famed electronic music publication Resident Advisor has announced its plans to celebrate 12 of the world’s best dance floors with an In Residence party series that will see them take up residence in 12 of the world’s finest clubs. Each residence will last a month, hosting four separate events that will showcase the uniqueness of each venue and their role in the local and international dance music community.

In a release statement, Resident Advisor tells us that, “without clubs, we have no club culture: the people, the sounds, the moments. Now is time to celebrate.” Fittingly, the celebrations begin in the city that started it all with the foundation of house music, and at a venue that has been the flag bearer for the movement for the past 34 years: Smart Bar Chicago.

The series will begin in March with a roster of high-quality selectors including DJ Harvey, DJ Nobu, Eric Cloutier, Roman FlĂŒgel, Tin Man, Mood II Swing, Analog Soul and two of the club’s finest residents in The Black Madonna and Michael Serafini.

The series will then fly across the Atlantic to take over Paris’ Concrete, a boat venue that has been championing the French capital’s love of techno for years. Highlight guests include Jackmaster, Move D and Margaret Dygas, who will also be joined by a slew of top-notch local talent.

The third announced stop of the tour will be in neighboring Germany and more specifically at Offenbach’s Robert Johnson across the river from Frankfurt. The May take-over is set to play host to a mix of local talents such as Ata and Gerd Janson — and guests The Black Madonna, Mike Servito, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Jeremy Underground, Prosumer and Lexx stopping by for a series of back-to-back sets.

RA plans to unveil the next three clubs that form stops 4-6 of the series soon.
