Following the hard-hitting release of her huge Rocket Fuel EP back in December 2019, Berlin-based techno maven and FORM Music favourite Simina Grigoriu now returns to the revered French label as she closes out a prolific summer of releases in emphatic fashion with her latest two-part package, Interpol 2020 EP.

Due for worldwide release on October 9, Interpol 2020 is Simina Grigoriu’s fourth full-blown EP on POPOF’s imprint, following her Matching Numbers EP in 2015, the three-part Slush Fund EP in 2017 and the aforementioned Rocket Fuel EP in 2019.

The release also comes off the back of Simina’s mammoth Line Runner EP on Prospect Records, which has been receiving hefty international DJ support and media hype ever since its release on September 7.

Kicking off this latest EP with the thunderous title track “Interpol 2020,” Simina Grigoriu goes full-throttle from the word go, delivering a heady peak-time cut, packed with trembling low-end, ravey synth stabs and trippy, industrial samples throughout.

Completing the package with the mesmerising, acid-tinged closer “Contraband,” Simina further demonstrates her flawless production skills and creative flair, as pounding kicks, arpeggiated synthesisers and cosmic soundscapes combine in perfect accord to wrap another extraordinary EP on FORM Music.

Premiere and Q&A: Fabio Florido & Simina Grigoriu Interview Each Other

PLAYdifferently MODEL 1 ambassador Fabio Florido joins the Kuukou family bringing his unique flair that has captivated crowds around the world and has graced labels such as Richie Hawtin’s Minus and Plus8, among others.

“Bound: kicks off with a rumbling bassline, accented by bulky drums that take center stage. The track glides between percussive and melodic sections with ease, keeping spirits high throughout the changes.

Label head Simina Grigoriu offers an acid-heavy rendition of the track, building a steady lead through compelling pads and tension-ridden sequences.

On a lighter, yet still dancefloor-ready note, “Twilight” perches along atypical sound bites reminiscent of a tropical aviary on a backdrop of concrete-heavy kick drums and a topsy-turvy bassline.

Simina Grigoriu takes on a raw approach on her Una EP, an energy-brimming three-piece centered around a dark techno power anthem, with remixes by Toronto talent Jade and Minus crew member Carlo Ruetz.

From “Una”’s boilerplate dark intro we’re guided into a symphony of arpeggiated strings layered on top of one another, stirring emotions to a whole new level. Adding to the rising tension are impish voices, channeling both the seraphic and the hellish opposites of the supernatural spectrum.

‘Shook Up’ is the latest EP from Romanian-born, Toronto-raised and Berlin-based producer Simina Grigoriu. Scheduled for release in digital format on October 21st, 2016 via the recently launched label Kuukou (which means “airport” in Japanese), the EP consists of one stunning techno bomb titled ‘Shook Up’.

with lush synths and pulsating bass lines, fused with a dark atmosphere which sets the mood for the entire release. The EP remains dynamic and diverse thanks to 4 reworks from Animal & Me, Autotune, Julian Wasserman and Original Peter, all exploring different sides of the same track, thus revealing the complexity and intricacy of Simina’s work.

Simina was kind enough to allow us to premiere ‘Shook Up” ahead of tomorrow’s release, and to chat with us a little about her career and newly-found motherhood.
