Kate Simko and the London Electronic Orchestra Announce Debut Album

KateSimko

Kate Simko’s resume is as extensive as they get, with experience as a film scorer and composer on top of her multiple years as a producer and DJ. Always striving to push the envelope, the Chicago native musician is now releasing a self-titled debut LP with the London Electronic Orchestra – a project spearheaded by Kate that blends the realms of electronic music and orchestra.

While this is mostly uncharted musical territory, she not only already began experimenting with electronic music and classical instruments when she was getting her Masters Degree at the Royal College of Music, but has taken the LEO on high-profile gigs including Bestival, the iTunes Festival and Ibiza.

As Kate explains, the two go hand in hand for her. ‘To me DJ’ing is live composition,’ she says. ‘It’s an improvisation. You’re choosing music for the moment. And that spontaneity is channeled into London Electronic Orchestra.”

In this new project, Kate fully composes the original LEO songs but with collaboration from the orchestra, specifying that, “LEO is about showcasing these ornate instruments in a new way, letting the players have their own moments to shine, and working with other creative collaborators to make it all happen.”

London Electronic Orchestra is set to come out on May 6th on vinyl, CD and also digital download via The Vinyl Factory. In February, it will be preceded by a three-track EP entitled Tilted, which includes a remix by LSOS (Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa). You can listen to the latter below through The Vinyl Factory’s Soundcloud.

Seth Troxler’s Epic Cookout for the Homeless in Amsterdam

As Amsterdam Dance Event draws nearer, October 14 will see an act of philanthropy. Seth Troxler will be cooking three-course meals for homeless people at one of the walk-in shelters run by De Regenboog Groep in Amsterdam. The group along with ADE, 10,000 Hours, and Troxler himself will draw the community together for a shared love of music and food.

“People shouldn’t be hungry,” the world-renowned DJ states frankly. After a triple winning streak at the annual ADE DJ Cook Off and being a part of the jury twice, Seth talks of his involvement in cooking for the homeless as a move toward larger social change.

“I think people involved in dance music are generally people who are a bit more empathetic. Maybe this comes from dancing or just because of that unity feeling on the dance floor. Because on the dance floor different people and different cultures open up about their lives and open their minds about how they can be as people. So utilizing this movement as in music to also be a social movement is pretty profound.” – Seth Troxler

Music has always been a source of significant change, whether in the realm of creativity or social movement. It is a unifying point that draws little distinction among its participants. Music also creates a subliminal awareness of the fundamental emotions that drive the practice of empathy and of forming community. So with bellies full and infectious smiles, ADE will set the standard as a progressive music event that goes beyond simply showcasing music. ADE liberates the boundaries between craft and appreciation of sound and opens its doors for all to bring a little something to contribute to the experience.

TIME WARP Returns To New York – PHASE ONE LINEUP ANNOUNCED

TimeWarp-Live

Time Warp, the ultimate techno festival, is coming back to New York after making an iconic debut last year at the 39th Street Pier. This year, they will be hosting the weekend marathon event at the historic Bedford Armory, a 108 year old historic monument, in Brooklyn from November 20-21. The two floor, 138,000 sq. ft castle is the perfect venue for what techno legend and Time Warp staple Sven VĂ€th dubbed “the best indoor event on this planet.

Phase one line up has also been confirmed by Time Warp featuring Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Joseph Capriati , Chris Liebing and many more to be announced soon.  Time Warp has built its reputation by fusing dark, dance floor aligned techno with visceral custom stage production and lighting that is comparable to none making this the most anticipated parties of year.

“Our mission is to make people dance and we’re delighted to do that again in NYC” – Steffen Charles, Time Warp founder

Over the years the global event has become well-known as the meeting place between a festival and warehouse party. Built by artist collectives, technicians, and interdisciplinary creatives from all over the world, the “Signature Floors” such as the Cave 1.0 and 2.0 are large-scale installations which transport visitors through various optical worlds. The space transforms from a cavernous ice cave to an menacing inferno depending on the colors and rhythms of more than 400 lamps and lasers.

Time Warp’s organizers Cosmopop (Sonus Festival in Croatia, Love Family Park and Stuttgart Electronic Music Festival in Germany) are joining forces with world-renowned festival promoter ID&T and New York’s TCE.

Tickets for Time Warp US are on sale via private presale. Fans must register to get a unique access code that will allow them to participate. (guaranteed best prices and a very limited supply).

Between the Beats with Seth Troxler

Seth Troxler Body

“It can give you the world, but you can lose your soul” – Seth Troxler

Seth Troxler is an artist leading a strong underground movement these days. He’s released on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest, and has also started his own vinyl only label Tuskegee Records with The Martinez Brothers. With a string of great releases and headlining clubs and festivals around the world, Troxler is an important player in the global scene.

Resident Advisor recently featured him in their Between the Beats series discussing aspects of his career such as life on the road, his responsibilities as an artist, and the legacy that he will leave behind when he’s no longer an artist. Seth Troxler may have a reputation as being the class clown and an overall jokester, but he’s also a very talented and introspective individual that can share his wisdom to the masses. Take a look at the full-length feature in the video below, and follow Seth on tour to Tomorrowland, Melt Festival in Germany, and everywhere in between.

Sure Seth might have a reputation of being the industry clown, but he’s “not all jokes, he’s [I’m] not Steve Aoki”, Troxler says lightheartedly in the feature. All jokes aside though, one doesn’t get as far as he has without hard work and dedication. We get a little taste of that in the segment about Tomorrowland where he shows how stressful it can be to manage a team and travel around the world touring. Rigorous travel schedules and running on no sleep is not for the faint of heart, yet it is one of the essential parts of success and touring in this industry. This seems to be a consistent theme in the Between the Beats series, but is still one that can’t be ignored.

There’s no arguing that Seth Troxler is one of the more outspoken and lively artists in the scene, and Between the Beats provides nice insight to his life on tour. The feature ends with preview clips of him and Tiga going back-to-back at Melt Festival in Germany. If you’d like to listen to set you can catch the full 2 hour recording here:
