Fresh off a near 24-hour solo set at Sunwaves in Romania, Marco Carola and his Music On team have announced the lineup for their summer residency at Amnesia Ibiza.
The party is celebrating five years on the island and is one of the most sought-after destinations for partygoers in search of techno, tech house and house music. This year, those visiting Amnesia on Friday nights will be treated to music by a series of esteemed residents that include Stacey Pullen, Paco Osuna, Apollonia, as well as Music On regulars Leon and Neverdogs. While some of the additional guests are still to be announced, Sam Paganini, Green Velvet, Paul Ritch, Matthias Tanzmann, D’Julz, The Martinez Brothers and Dubfire are all set to play throughout the summer.
Music On boss Marco Carola is scheduled to play the Terrace every night of the residency that begins on June 3rd and ends September 30th. Unlike previous years, it seems that he will not be playing any open-to-close sets although Terrace guest DJs for August 12th and September 9th remain unannounced.
Find the full line-up for Music On Ibiza 2016 below. Tickets are available through Amnesia’s website.
Despite Ibiza’s role as the mecca of electronic dance music world over, the sounds of techno seldom make their way to the island throughout the season, with parties gernally favoring house and tech house. In recent years, bigger names of the genre such as Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing Ben Klock and RĂždhĂ„d have all paid visits to the island, as have a string of Detroit techno legends the likes of Robert Hood and Derrick May. Mostly, these have been guests at parties such as ENTER., Cocoon or Detroit Love – nights that cover techno but not in their entirety. The truth is that at least in recent years there hasn’t been a party solely devoted to “proper techno” throughout the island, despite the genre’s popularity and the vast amount of talent that represents it.
That is about to change with MATERIA, a brand new techno night presented by veteran Marco Bailey at Privilege‘s Vista Club on Sunday night. The residency will last 11 eleven weeks throughout the summer, showcasing sounds that focus on techno and nothing else. When announcing MATERIA, the Belgian artist said, “I want to present you all with MATERIA – a night that reflects our sound, a sound that creates a certain outstanding energy that penetrates the body and soul. For me, it is that special kind of energy we call TECHNO, a sound I have represented for over 15 years. MATERIA will be bringing music fans together worldwide, from Belgium to Spain to the United States to Japan – uniting us together as one”
This first summer residency for Bailey will begin on June 19th, and will feature quality techno acts such as Black Asteroid, Paul Ritch, Sam Paganini, Marcel Fengler, Carlo Lio, Shlomi Aber, as well as Markus Suckut, Vril and Sasha Carassi.
More acts are yet to be announced, but it’s already starting to look like MATERIA will be the techno hotspot on the island throughout this year’s summer.
Fresh off appearances at Awakenings and Guendalina in Italy, Sam Paganini will be gracing the decks with a four hour set at Exchange LA this Saturday. Heâs among many artists from Italy that have developed their own signature style of groovy techno, and has developed a deep understanding of the dance floor over the years.
Throughout his career, Sam Paganini has released EPâs and albums on esteemed techno labels such as Cocoon Recordings, Drumcode, and Octopus Records, and to honor his trip to Los Angeles weâve picked three various releases from his techno catalog.
Enjoy the mid-week grooves and make sure to catch his extended set at Exchange LA this Saturday, July 18th.
Labyrinth is a heady techno groover that found itâs way onto Cocoon Recordingâs Compilation N. Sam Paganini elevates his creative and technical ability in Labyrinth and achieves electronic complexities that keep the mind and body locked in. The groove often associated with his Drumcode releases are the perfect compliment to the distorted chords that occupy the arrangement.
In addition to being a regular on Cocoon, Sam Paganini has also found a welcoming home on Drumcode with groovy mainroom techno being his specialty. Chocolate gives us some insight into his sound as a Drumcode artist, showing his tight control over the various elements within the track. Even with a dominant groove Sam Paganini still recognizes the subtleties that make the track a cohesive arrangement.
Sam Paganini stepped up to the plate to deliver this remix for Octopus Records head honcho, Sian. Like he does so well, Famous Child Actor is a serious slab of groovy techno. It chugs along at a steady pace while continually layering and evolving into a mainroom weapon. Essentially…it’s the track that would be best served up on the Space Terrace during a Drumcode marathon, but hearing it on the Funktion One at Exchange LA is not a bad alternative.
