Richie Hawtin (Sort Of) Revealed His New Mixer

Screen Shot 2016-03-15 at 5.48.02 PM

Richie Hawtin kicked things off for his Prototypes Tour last night at Sound Nightclub in Los Angeles. This tour has been anticipated by many, with a great deal of buzz revolving around the announcement of his new mixer. Well, the time has (sort of) come to reveal the mixer, but don’t get your hopes up.

Prior to the event, Hawtin took time with esteemed entertainment photographer, Michael Tullberg, to pose for a photoshoot with his new mixer. To my upmost disappointment, it reveals nothing, as it is essentially just Richie Hawtin holding the bottom of the mixer to face the camera. While tech gurus and music fans were probably eager to see what the legendary Hawtin had up his sleeve for this design, it’s safe to say that no one is salivating over a five by five black metal box with no knobs or fancy gizmos.

Alas, it’s a step forward in finally revealing the mixer that will (hopefully soon) be on display for the world to see.

UshuaĂŻa Ibiza Opening Party to Feature Richie Hawtin, Guy Gerber, Maya Jane Coles and More

Last Year's UshuaĂŻa Opening Party

Last Year’s UshuaĂŻa Opening Party

As we inch our way through winter, Ibiza is gearing up for a new season and announcements of opening parties and residency line-ups are starting to flair up.

UshuaĂŻa Ibiza, the island’s biggest outdoor party venue, has announced an Opening Party lineup that veers away from the EDM-centric names it often houses throughout the season by focusing purely on a roster of underground stars. While ENTER.Ibiza is no more, the brand’s head-honcho Richie Hawtin will be headlining the celebrations, accompanied by a supporting stars of excellence. In alphabetical order, he is joined by Andrea Oliva, the mind behind the Ants Colony concept, Rumor’s Guy Gerber, ENTER.Sake’s Hito, Hot Since 82, La Familia’s Joris Voorn, Los Suruba and last but not least Maya Jane Coles.

The party doors will open at 12pm on Saturday May 28th, with tickets ranging between 40,00 € for early entry and 60,00 € for regular ticket.

Although no information has been provided, the event flyer not only bears Hawtin’s M_nus logo but also the label’s signature colors and style. It will be interesting to see how things shift on the island this year, after news came out that UshuaĂŻa Ibiza is purchasing the iconic Space Ibiza across the street, a move that coincided with Carl Cox’s announcement to not return to the club in 2017 and Hawtin’s decision to not continue ENTER.Ibiza altogether.

Video Shows Richie Hawtin Introducing New DJ Gear to ENTER.Ibiza Guest DJs

PlayDifferently

As we reported in January, Richie Hawtin partnered up with former Allen & Heath pioneer Andy Rigby-Jones to create Play Differently, a collaborative partnership that aims to expand the spectrum of DJ creativity through new technology and hardware.

At NAMM 2016 (in Annheim, California), Richie officially unveiled the project as a working collaboration of friends new and old, including a partnership with the Audiotonix group responsible for the innovation and distribution of such renowned audio brands as DiGiCo and the aforementioned Allen & Heath. The first prototype went into testing use as early as 2014, and we learned that it had since been made available through various stages of its project at select leading worldwide events, including Glastonbury in the UK and the ENTER.Ibiza party series that Richie spearheaded at Space.

Richie has now released a video promoting Play Differently and highlighting some of the key events of the past couple of years. Footage shows the M_nus boss introducing the still-to-be-unveiled product to the likes of Chris Liebing, Marcell Dettmann, Josh Wink, Tiga and DJ Tech Tool’s Ean Golden.

While unclear whether this is the case, the video includes clips of Dubfire, Recondite, Matador and Gaiser performing during the last few seasons of ENTER’s now ended residency in Ibiza, leading to the assumption that they tested out the prototype live at Space.

Richie Hawtin Announces New Project with Allen & Heath and Audiotonix

richie live cntrl

It’s been a busy 2016 for Richie Hawtin already, with DJ sets at BPM and Los Angeles, along with the news that ENTER will not return to Ibiza this summer. The technology aficionado continues to make headlines with the announcement of ‘Play Differently‘ – a collaborative partnership with Allen & Heath and Audiotonix.

The news was announced at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, with Hawtin stating that “the ethos of Play Differently is to create products that will magnify the individuality and expand the creativity of today’s generation of electronic music artists, producers and DJs . We hope to encourage and inspire creatives to PLAY differently.”

Play Differently has apparently been in development for two years, and with gear mogul Allen & Heath in the mix (no pun intended), Play Differently will certainly be one of the major talking points of NAMM. Stay up to date with more information as more is revealed regarding the vague, yet exciting concept from Richie Hawtin.

Pete Tong and BBC Radio 1 Take Over Hollywood Rooftop on Jan 22nd

Pete Tong

BBC Radio 1’s dance music pioneer Pete Tong has announced plans to broadcast his 22nd of January show live and directly from a rooftop location in West Hollywood overlooking downtown Los Angeles.

The three-hour show, set to broadcast at 10pm-1am UK time and 2-5pm local time time, will see Pete take over the decks accompanied by top artists in dance music including Eric Prydz, Richie Hawtin, MK (with a special guest) and Claude vonStroke. The afternoon rooftop session will be followed by the already announced “Essential Mix Live” show at Exchange LA later that night. Featuring Richie Hawtin, Pete Tong himself and rising star Lee K, the recordings from the night will form up an Essential Mix to be released on Pete’s show.

The Los Angeles broadcast will be the first of two in the United States, with Pete set to take over a Miami rooftop during Miami Music Week where he will be in the company of Annie Mac, Dannie Howard and additional guests yet to be announced.

PeteTongAnnouncement

Pete Tong said: “I’m very excited about my show coming live from LA on Jan 22nd. Los Angeles has become a creative hub for electronic artists from all over the world during the past few years and California and Las Vegas a hot bed of ground breaking festivals and some of the world’s leading clubs. Bringing the show out of Hollywood and being able to reflect some of the exciting things going on is a great way to start the year.”

Richie Hawtin’s ENTER Leaves Ibiza

Enter

This morning we were hit with the news that as of this season, Richie Hawtin’s ENTER is leaving Space Ibiza and the island. This means that Space, which has already seen Carl Cox announce its departure after the coming season, will most likely be hosting a new concept party on Thursdays as of summer 2016.

The real motives behind the decision are not entirely evident from Hawtin’s Facebook post where he announced the move, but speculation has it that it may be due to Space being bought out by the group that owns UshuaĂŻa across the street. Space Ibiza’s long-time owners and manager, in particular Pepe Rosello, had built strong ties of friendship with many of the club’s residents over the years and it’s unclear whether this has any bearing on the party moves for both ENTER and Cox’s Revolution.

Hawtin does clarify that ENTER is not ending, but rather the project “will continue to explore site specific events around the world based upon our core principles: Music. Sake. Technology. Experience.”
