As the end of the year draws to a close, it’s time to round-up the best tracks of 2021. UK-based independent record label Rekids was founded in 2006 by Matt Edwards, AKA Radio Slave. The label’s eclectic catalogue features an abundance of original works and remixes by artists such as Nina Kraviz, Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin, and many others. In celebration of the coming new year, Radio Slave has chosen his top 12 Rekids tracks of 2021.
This week Berlin-based live artist and sound engineer Hybrasil presents the ninth release on his eponymous label, as well as 5 important tips for live performers. As with all Hybrasil label releases, Osiris EP features three tracks from his live show
This is his first release since his debut album Embers dropped on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint last November, following a strong debut on the Berlin label with Afra EP. The heavy affiliation with the label continued recently as Hybrasil found himself joining the imprint for his debut at, Panorama Bar. American producer FBK returns to Rekids with his debut album entitled More Stories From The Future.
Long-term house and techno heavyweight, Kevin M. Kennedy aka FBK has a career spanning three decades. Debuting with a seminal release on Frictional in ’97, Kennedy went on to appear on labels like diametric. and Urban Kickz, whilst more recent releases have landed on Barba Records, Suspected (alongside Paul Mac) and Rekids – kick-starting the label’s Special Projects series. With a close bond to Detroit greats like Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir, Daniel Bell, Claude Young, Keith Tucker and Sherard Ingram (DJ Stingray), FBK is considered a true contemporary. Returning to Rekids for his inaugural long player, ‘More Stories From The Future’ demonstrates his versatility within the studio and mirrors his genre-bending approach to performing, both as a DJ and live act.
‘Modular Life’ brings deep resonating lows, liquid pads and clinical percussion, before the psychedelic vocals of ‘I’ll Sit Back, You’ll Jack’ join smashing snares and intensifying synths. Exhibiting erratic sound design, ‘Layers of Fear’ comes complete with pumping drums and intense hi-hats, until ‘Hassling’ offers a stepping groove, thick pad stabs and deep sub movement. ‘Headless’ gets modular heavy with bubbling effects and shuffling rhythm, preceding the driving kicks of ‘Gate Closing’ where ghostly vocals meet enveloping acid growls. ‘The Boxing Lesson’ delivers punchy kicks and steppy snares under lofty atmospherics, ending on ‘The Finisher’s Heart’ where evolving detuned synths flow over powerful percussion.
We sat down with Kevin to talk about his career, the album, and much more.
Float and Balans producer Hemka joins Matt Edwardsâ Rekids Special Projects with three techno cuts entitled The Portrait of Nina Sayers.
Marseille-born producer and DJ, Hemka is one of the most promising techno artists based in Paris. Her fast-paced rhythmical sound has an emotional, psychedelic twist which has seen her release on Darko Esserâs Balans and TWR72âs Float Records, with support from the upper echelons like Rebekah, Dasha Rush and ROD. As a DJ sheâs shared the stage with figures like Len Faki, Surgeon and James Ruskin and is a regular at Parisian clubs like Concrete and REX, not to mention the French festival circuit, when not performing all over Europe. She now joins the Rekids Special Projects series, following artists like P.Leone, DJ Spider, Tripeo and DJ Deep.
âDoppelgaÌngerâ features a damaging kick under disjointed piano melodies to establish an eerie aesthetic, before âCountdownâ offers emotive pads and twisted bleeps that evolve amidst shuffling drums. Finally, âThe Portrait Of Nina Sayersâ escalates in tension with an arpeggiated melody, pumping kicks and firm snares.
Poetry meets the eyes and ears of electronic music in an extraordinary collaboration between UK house producer Phil Asher and London poet musician James Massiah. A chance meeting at a performance at Dalstonâs Servantâs Jazz Quarters has given birth to the three track EP titled Space & Time. Read more
2013 saw the iconic techno label, Rekids, come to a standstill. Certain circumstances arise, and sometimes decisions need to be made in order to ensure the longevity of a brand or vision; and this is exactly what Radio Slave did in December of 2013.
After taking time to recalibrate the label, Rekids is back in the swing of things with a recent release from Radio Slave and a forthcoming release from Spencer Parker so aptly titled No More Silly Club Songs Vol. 1
âThis EP is simply a collection of tracks I made around 18 months ago for my own sets. No concept, no bullshit, just some tracks to WORK the club.â – Spencer Parker
Release Date: July 20, 2015 (12â & Digital)

Rekids: Facebook | Soundcloud | Beatport
This statement from Parker himself is spot on. These four tracks cut right to the chase and are aimed directly at the dance floor. Silly Club Song No. 1 utilizes widely recognizable chords that often find themselves in dance floor oriented DJ tools. Accompanied with simple yet precise drum programming the opening track is everything youâd expect. Now we just want to hear it as intended on a proper sound system.
Silly Club Song No. 2 doesnât deviate much in terms of the drum foundation from the opening track, but thereâs still a great amount of substance here to differentiate from the rest of the EP. Rocking at a steady pace, Silly Club Song No. 2 maintains a level of tension that is sure to have dance floors in a frenzy.
The flipside starts strong with an alluring lead, techno rides, and an epic breaks drum breakdown. Easily the most unique of the release, Silly Club Song No. 3 is an incredibly versatile tool that can be the perfect injection of life into a set.
Rounding off the release is Silly Club Song No. 4 in all its gritty techno wonder. Sticking true to the bare bones foundation, this closing piece is essentially only a few tracks in the arrangement, which is a testament to how effective techno can be. A few tracks done right is really all one needs to make something work a dance floorâŠthat was the goal after all according to Spencer Parker.
