Berlin club arkaoda to host Turkey-Syria fundraiser this Sunday
Berlin club arkaoda is hosting a fundraiser this Sunday, February 19th, for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Turkey and Syria.
So far around 40,000 people have died after two earthquakes devastated south-eastern Turkey and parts of northern Syria. All profits from the fundraiser will be split between three organisations: Ahbap, The White Helmets and Heyva Sor.
Running from 2 PM through 1 AM, the event will host DJ sets from numerous artists with Turkish or Syrian heritage, including Konduku, Mehmet Aslan, Melis, Slimgirl Fat, Taradud, Zilch Flow and Zuhour. More names are still TBA.
In addition to the music, there will be arts and crafts for sale. The whole event will be livestreamed via Palestine’s Radio Alhara, Root Radio in Istanbul and Berlin community platform Refuge Worldwide
Resident Advisor will double the final amount raised at arkaoda. Tickets will be available on the door, though people can also donate directly by purchasing donation-only tickets via the RA event listing below.

Watch Between The Beats: The Black Madonna by Resident Advisor
In the latest edition of the ever-popular Between The Beats mini-documentary series, Resident Advisor followed Marea Stamper, or The Black Madonna as you may know her, on a string of gigs across Europe. You may remember the series from past editions that featured Seth Troxler or Nina Kraviz, both of which made headlines throughout the worldwide dance music scene.
The near 28-minute-and-a-half video explores Marea’s career journey and the hurdles she faced to get to where she is now. In 2012, just four years ago, she felt that she had failed as a producer and DJ and was ready to hang her headphones for good. But she didn’t.

It can also be watched on a desktop, where you drag the video to look around.

RA To Bring In Residence Party Series To 12 of the World’s Best Clubs
Famed electronic music publication Resident Advisor has announced its plans to celebrate 12 of the world’s best dance floors with an In Residence party series that will see them take up residence in 12 of the world’s finest clubs. Each residence will last a month, hosting four separate events that will showcase the uniqueness of each venue and their role in the local and international dance music community.
In a release statement, Resident Advisor tells us that, “without clubs, we have no club culture: the people, the sounds, the moments. Now is time to celebrate.” Fittingly, the celebrations begin in the city that started it all with the foundation of house music, and at a venue that has been the flag bearer for the movement for the past 34 years: Smart Bar Chicago.
The series will begin in March with a roster of high-quality selectors including DJ Harvey, DJ Nobu, Eric Cloutier, Roman FlĂŒgel, Tin Man, Mood II Swing, Analog Soul and two of the club’s finest residents in The Black Madonna and Michael Serafini.
The series will then fly across the Atlantic to take over Paris’ Concrete, a boat venue that has been championing the French capital’s love of techno for years. Highlight guests include Jackmaster, Move D and Margaret Dygas, who will also be joined by a slew of top-notch local talent.
The third announced stop of the tour will be in neighboring Germany and more specifically at Offenbach’s Robert Johnson across the river from Frankfurt. The May take-over is set to play host to a mix of local talents such as Ata and Gerd Janson â and guests The Black Madonna, Mike Servito, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Jeremy Underground, Prosumer and Lexx stopping by for a series of back-to-back sets.
RA plans to unveil the next three clubs that form stops 4-6 of the series soon.
