Q&A and Premiere: Hemka Debuts on Rekids With “The Portrait Of Nina Sayers” EP

Float and Balans producer Hemka joins Matt Edwards’ Rekids Special Projects with three techno cuts entitled The Portrait of Nina Sayers.

Marseille-born producer and DJ, Hemka is one of the most promising techno artists based in Paris. Her fast-paced rhythmical sound has an emotional, psychedelic twist which has seen her release on Darko Esser’s Balans and TWR72’s Float Records, with support from the upper echelons like Rebekah, Dasha Rush and ROD. As a DJ she’s shared the stage with figures like Len Faki, Surgeon and James Ruskin and is a regular at Parisian clubs like Concrete and REX, not to mention the French festival circuit, when not performing all over Europe. She now joins the Rekids Special Projects series, following artists like P.Leone, DJ Spider, Tripeo and DJ Deep.

‘Doppelgänger’ features a damaging kick under disjointed piano melodies to establish an eerie aesthetic, before ‘Countdown’ offers emotive pads and twisted bleeps that evolve amidst shuffling drums. Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 142 Feat. Linear Straight

Since 2002 Brussels-based Glenn Keteleer, known as Radical G and more recently as Linear Straight, has been a regular fixture behind the decks all over the Belgian techno scene, and can often be found filling Berlin institutions such as Tresor and GriesmĂŒhle with his own particular brand of underground techno and dark soundscapes.

As Radical G, Keteleer was at the forefront of the underground EBM and electropop scene, and with his first record under his new Linear Straight alias, he dives into a world of dark spaces, leftfield modular techno and industrial soundscapes.

His recent Roscosmos LP delves into this murky and uncompromising sound over 13 songs, resulting in an intense and noisy journey through the grittiest side of techno music. The variety of genres that Keteleer has as part of his musical background clearly shine through on this latest record, displaying obvious influences from all across the wide spectrum of electronic music. One of the stand-out features of this album is the innovative and varied drum patterns that are used throughout, seemingly taking influence from sources spread as far apart as IDM and military marches, and rarely falling back to the classic four on the floor techno trope. This unsurprisingly cultivates a far more rhythmic and diverse approach than would ordinarily be expected from such a heavy release.

We invited Linear Straight to deliver this week’s episode of Global Vibe Radio, and took the opportunity to have a chat with him while we were at it.

Q&A and 6AM Guest Mix: Chris Kalaylee

Chris Kalaylee is a hometown hero in New York City, and has been busy honing sound in the studio over the past few years. Having already shared the DJ booth with some of the greatest talent in electronic music we invited him to provide this week’s 6AM guest mix!

Chris is now ready to bring his own music to the masses. Released on leading US imprint Uprise Music, “Problem”  a powerful statement of intent, and a striking debut, now available on Beatport here.

Chugging along on a 4/4 beat, the sinister looped synths and chunky bass notes combine with a heavily pitched-down vocal to create a dark, brooding atmosphere, juxtaposed by an optimistic spoken word vocal before building to a break of truly epic proportions. One for the basements, ‘Problems’ is a cut above the usual house fare, and marks Kalaylee as one to watch for the future.

Enjoy his guest mix and our exclusive interview below:
