Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 84 feat. Brunetto (Freelastica, Irregular)

This week’s GVR podcast comes directly from Spain, where Brunetto hails from. A musician, composer, DJ and music journalist born in Seville but based in Barcelona, Brunetto’s musical soundscape is a wide one, as this eclectic mix proves.

Brunetto’s artistry can be traced back to the broken beat school, after which it followed a journey that saw him traverse through 80s funky-rap, trip-hop, 90s rock big beats, post-beats, post-dubstep, IDM and even future bass. Describing his musical output as “diverse” would be an understatement, just as it would be to use the same adjective to describe his involvement with the electronic music world.

He has played festivals the likes of SĂłnar, Move, Klubbers Day, Space of Sound, Territorios, Electroshock and Observatori, all the while holding DJ residencies at venues such as Bauhaus, Funclub, Sumo, Elefunk, Jackson, and Demo. His tours have taken him to DJ booths throughout Europe, all the while working as an artist manager, agent and holding several PR and journalistic positions within the industry.

His guest mix for GVR clocks in at just under a hour-and-a-half. Listen to it below, download it for free here and read on for our interview with Brunetto.

Digging Deeper with Dragosh

Dutch label Memoria has long harbored a propensity for discerning house and techno, so the signing of Romanian producer should come as no real surprise. Having already lined out for labels such as Brouqade, Moon Harbour and Desolat, Dragosh is no stranger to big labels – and on this EP he emphatically reminds us just why he’s quickly become such a respected figure in underground circles. Featuring three originals, the Relov EP offers a tantalizing glimpse into the mind of a producer who’s very much at the top of his game.

Opening the release is the sounds of the title track. A catchy-as-hell track with a cracking baseline, it’s a refined, almost effortlessly simple deep house weapon of the sort that would win favor with DJs of Fred P’s calibre. Middle effort “Have No Glue” is no less effective. Full of curious bleeps and twists and turns aplenty, it’s further indication of the producer’s knack for trotting down unlikely paths. Although it kicks off at a frenetic pace, it soon simmers, developing into a more minimal effort as it progresses. Intense and unpredictable from the get go, it neatly paves the way for the B-side, “Yps Lion”. the most atmospheric track of the lot, this one is dark and dextrous and will make most sense when the night decides to take a triply turn. All in all, another cracking EP from the man they call Dragosh.

Q&A and Premiere: Leftback Boss Dudley Strangeways and David Gtronic Collaborate on “Diminution” EP

Amongst discerning house connoisseurs, Leftback Records has long been one of the UK’s worst-kept secrets.

Whether it be full-on house or minimal techno, Dudley Strangeways and Michael McLardy’s label continues to impress. Their latest outing is a case in point. Arriving on our plate from the dab hand that is Mr Strangeways himself, it sees the Nottingham producer produce alongside David Gtronic, and is a partnership that pays great dividends on the Dimunition EP.

A rollicking indication of what makes the label tick, it’s also a fascinating insight into the minds of two producers whose styles very much compliment one another. On the eve of the release, we checked in with Dudley for a quick chat.

Here’s what the man in question had to say when we threw a few questions his way recently in honor of the premiere of “Melee” from the forthcoming EP he was kind enough to have us host.

Q&A: Tim Engelhardt Talks America, Studio and Live Setup while on Debut United States Tour

One of Cologne’s youngest and brightest electronic music stars on the rise, Tim Engelhardt didn’t crash the scene out of nowhere, but started his path as a young kid, first trying to rewrite the piano pieces he had to practice at the tender age of eight, already showcasing the creative and musical mind that would eventually lead him to become the respected and prolific electronic music producer he is today.

Tim discovered the music of Robert Babicz early on and, under his influence and mentorship, became churning out track after track, growing his portfolio with plenty of releases on labels such as Traum Schallplatten, WIR, Babiczstyle, Amuse Gueule, Ostwind Records, Popart Music, Playmusic Productions, Parquet Recordings, Manual Music and Steve Bug’s iconic Poker Flat Recordings – all in just four short years, before eventually showcasing his music on imprints such as Dixon’s Innervisions and Cityfox.

Currently in the midst of his debut USA Tour, Tim took the time to talk with us in between his successful debut at Cityfox in New York and his stop at Chicago’s Spybar for 3feetdeep tomorrow night.
