Digging Deeper with ANOTR

From the early career stages in an Amsterdam attic studio to being called a breath of fresh air, producers to watch, and future superstar DJs, the importance of commitment and patience is once again underlined by the prime example presented right before your eyes: ANOTR.

Consisting of 21 year olds Jesse van der Heijden and Oguzhan Guney, ANOTR are the house-meets-tech-house revelations of their time. After hours and hours of hard work and tweaks to reach undisputed perfection, the first eye-opening works of the Amsterdam based sparked the interest of record label Armada Music, subsequently leading to the release of summer anthem͚ Strobe͛ on Defected records breakout label DFTD in early October 2015.

Despite their tender age, ANOTR have played on summer festival hotspot Ibiza, rewarded their fans with multiple DJ performances during Europe͛s main dance music conference Amsterdam Dance Event, and graced plenty more internationally acclaimed clubs, venues, and festivals with their distinctive sound, and unmatched, on-stage energy.

Q&A and Premiere with New York City Minimal, House and Techno Influenced Live Composition Trio N/UM

N/UM are a New York City trio composed of Jeremy Loucas on drum machines, samples and mixing;  Emil Bovbjerg on synths and vocals; and Elias Meister on guitar and bass.

On December 8th they are releasing YES on their own Ninetofire label, their second production outing following their debut album Zebra (Duro). YES is a four-track EP recorded live in a single take before an audience at House of Yes in Brooklyn. Created in free improvisation, the tracks flow into each other seamlessly in such a way that a small element of one track is often transformed into the main part of the next. After all, this is how N/UM always operate, producing minimal, house and techno on the fly, whether in the studio or on tour, and recording it for release. The result is always something original, making their project and ambitions unique in an industry where studio sessions often see producers go anywhere but the strictly live composition route.  It’s a sight to behold, as they use classic instruments such as the 808, 909, SH-101 and Mono/Poly paired with their inventive use of voices, guitar and unique samples to produce something completely original with each and every take.

6AM is excited to be presenting the exclusive premiere of “Elastica” from the forthcoming EP, which you can stream below. We also caught up with N/UM in honor of the occasion to learn more about their project and life in the Big Apple.

We also take the opportunity to exclusively premiere his remix of Paul Sawyer’s Change, scheduled for release on December 4th as part of an EP by the same name on Krafted Digital.

Digging Deeper at ADE with DESNA and Johnny Trika

6AM chats with two Arcana Agency artists in the midst of a busy ADE 2017 week.

Desna and Johnny Trika both produce and play techno, although with characteristically different soundscapes of their own. Desna’s path has seen her strive to move away from labels, choosing instead to focus on quality music production of a transcendental nature, inspired by artists such as Ben Klock, Len Faki, and Jeff Rushin just to name a few. She rose from the ranks of one of the world’s most competitive dance music cities, New York, performing at gay parties which ultimately led to launching her own controversial event series.

Johnny’s story is a little different. “Discovered” by Dubfire himself, he has been a Sci-Tec label mainstay for a while now, armed with a minimal techno sound that perfectly fits that of the Iranian-born producer and his label. Born in Montreal, Johnny is a gear aficionado, and it shows both in his studio and live set-up, as well as the mesmerizing and intense live performances he has now been doing all over the world, each one stacked only with original material, both released hits and unreleased gems.
