RESISTANCE Ibiza will enjoy its second edition this year as all Tuesdays from July 17 to September 11 at the biggest club in the world, Privilege, will be dedicated to this massive event. A massive lineup of headliners worthy of the brand has just been announced.
Following two long raids at Amnesia Ibiza by Spanish authorities, including an initial seventeen-hour search and a second one that uncovered over 2 million Euros in cash stashed in hidden compartments, the Tax Agency (AEAT) of Spain has gone on to search Space and Privilege.
Local news outlet Diario de Ibiza, who has kept abreast on the investigation, reports that the AEAT is looking into around 87 nightlife spots across the entire country of Spain, including four on the Balearic island and international clubbing destination. Four people were arrested during the Amnesia raids, with a total of fourteen individuals reportedly under investigation at the current moment.
The AEAT was assisted by Police in their searches of Space and Privilege, with latest reports claiming that other large sums of money were found during these latter parts of the ongoing Operation Chopin investigation.
According to another Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, the four people arrested in the Amnesia operation have been given conditional release â they must periodically appear before a judge and cannot leave Spain without permission. Their passports must also be handed in to authorities as part of their release.
Despite Ibiza’s role as the mecca of electronic dance music world over, the sounds of techno seldom make their way to the island throughout the season, with parties gernally favoring house and tech house. In recent years, bigger names of the genre such as Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing Ben Klock and RĂždhĂ„d have all paid visits to the island, as have a string of Detroit techno legends the likes of Robert Hood and Derrick May. Mostly, these have been guests at parties such as ENTER., Cocoon or Detroit Love – nights that cover techno but not in their entirety. The truth is that at least in recent years there hasn’t been a party solely devoted to “proper techno” throughout the island, despite the genre’s popularity and the vast amount of talent that represents it.
That is about to change with MATERIA, a brand new techno night presented by veteran Marco Bailey at Privilege‘s Vista Club on Sunday night. The residency will last 11 eleven weeks throughout the summer, showcasing sounds that focus on techno and nothing else. When announcing MATERIA, the Belgian artist said, “I want to present you all with MATERIA – a night that reflects our sound, a sound that creates a certain outstanding energy that penetrates the body and soul. For me, it is that special kind of energy we call TECHNO, a sound I have represented for over 15 years. MATERIA will be bringing music fans together worldwide, from Belgium to Spain to the United States to Japan – uniting us together as one”
This first summer residency for Bailey will begin on June 19th, and will feature quality techno acts such as Black Asteroid, Paul Ritch, Sam Paganini, Marcel Fengler, Carlo Lio, Shlomi Aber, as well as Markus Suckut, Vril and Sasha Carassi.
More acts are yet to be announced, but it’s already starting to look like MATERIA will be the techno hotspot on the island throughout this year’s summer.
