A Rare Prince Cassette Sold on Discogs for $4,087

Prince

Would you buy a cassette for over $4,000? You well might if you’re an avid Prince fan and the tape in question contains a catalogue of Prince rarities!

In fact, ‘The Versace Experience – Prelude 2 Gold’ just broke the record as the most expensive cassette tape sold on Discogs after it was secured for the modest price of $4,087 by a dedicated Prince fan back in August.

The tape includes edits and remixes, and was handed out to attendees at the Versace fashion show hosted during paris Fashion Week in 1995. 21 years after it was first doing the rounds, as a prelude to the singer’s ‘The Gold Experience’ album, it was snapped up for a value that is almost double that of the most expensive cassette previously sold on the website, a boxset of Throbbing Gristle music sold for $2,200.

Prince was active in the studio yet, despite an impressive list of releases to his name by the time of his death in April, it was revealed that he had so much unreleased music material that he could release an album every year for the next 100 years.

A Look Inside Moodymann’s Detroit Home: A Tribute to Prince

Detroit. The birthplace of Techno yes, but also the home of Motown and a selection of top-tier artists that symbolize a wide array of genres including Jazz, Gospel, Hip-hop, Rap, Rock and roll and of course Pop.

During the city’s second wave of emerging Techno artists, Kenny Dixon Jr., also known as Moodymann, represented an enigmatic figure that always strived to put music ahead of his own persona. He famously refused to give an interview for the first ten years of his career, despite becoming one of the genre’s most respected artist following the release of his ’97 debut Silentintroduction LP on Carl Craig’s Planet E Communications imprint.

During this past Movement weekend, Thump managed to gain access to one of Moodymann’s residencies in the Motor City. Located across from the Submerge record store, the characteristically Detroit three-story brick house turned out to be a living homage to the late Prince Rogers Nelson.

When asked about Prince’s biggest impact on his life, the Detroit producer quickly replied, “Girls. Women. I didn’t have to have no game, I just had to put a Prince record on. It was easy. I didn’t have to say nothing. They’ll come to the car where I’m playing it loud, and they’ll be like, ‘Can you turn that up?’ And I’ll be like, ‘No, you turn it up.'”

The following pictures tell the full story of Prince’s impact on Dixon as an individual, but also on his music, and by default on Techno as well.

It is with a heavy heart that we just discovered that Prince was found dead this morning in his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Prince Rogers Nelson, the iconic music figure known world over as Prince, passed away at 57 for reasons yet to be determined. It was reported last week that the musician was on a flight back home from Atlanta last week when the pilot was forced to to make an emergency landing so that Prince could be rushed to a hospital. Reports that followed stated that he had a flu.

Born in Minneapolis, the music legend released a total of 39 studio albums throughout his prolific and illustrious career, including two last year alone: HITNRUN Phase One and Two. Perhaps his most applauded piece of work was 1984’s Purple Rain, followed by the film by the same name.
