Playlist: Steve Darko Shares His 8 Favorite Tunes

As one of the most established labels in dance music, it’s no surprise that Dirtybird is constantly on the hunt for new talent. Steve Darko has become prey of bird in this case. The fresh-faced producer comes out flying with a new EP titled Fried or Fertilized, that can’t be described as anything else but signature Dirtybird.

The release features two tracks from Steve, ‘Fried or Fertilized’ and ‘Thumbs feat. Uncle Kev’. Both tunes are exemplary of the Dirtybird  sound—silly, fun, and nonetheless expertly produced. Wonky synths and strange vocals sit at the heart of the EP, culminating in Steve debut on Dirtybird

To congratulate Steve on the new release, we asked him to put together a short list of tunes that get him going. Have a listen below.

Premiere: Listen to Select Cuts from Deep Tech Los Angeles Volume 1, Forthcoming on Krafted Underground

A metamorphism is taking place in downtown Los Angeles – from an underdeveloped urban landscape to a thriving metropolis with a flourishing electronic music scene.

Arising from this transformation is Deep Tech Los Angeles (DTLA) – a new collective of underground house producers from Los Angeles, all striving to build a grassroots movement of music and events.

Established by Redux Saints, the first U.S. graduate of the Toolroom Academy programme, the aim of the collective is to connect artists via a series of ‘listening sessions’ where producers could give feedback to each other. The project rapidly evolved into a compilation album of exclusive new and original material.

DTLA Volume 1 – released on Krafted Underground – showcases the deep, tech-y and progressive sounds that DTLA stands for, featuring tracks from LA scene stalwarts JJ Flores, Mr. Bootsauce, Lok N Key, Redux Saints, Shanto, Contessa, Andy Slate, P-LASK alongside newcomers 28mm and Thomas Garcia.

Today, we are premiering four cuts from the 12-tracker, which you can enjoy via the SoundCloud player below:

Playlist: FooR’s New, Current and Future Garage Sounds

FooR is a four-piece collective of producers, musicians and DJs at the forefront (or FooR-front as they call it) of the current UK Garage revival. This Southampton-based act has been championing the garage sound for a new generation and is considered one of the fastest rising UK Garage groups at the moment.

FooR has recently been given the honour of mixing the latest Pure Garage album – the original, and best-selling Garage compilation series of all-time originally mixed by EZ. The album was a huge success reaching number 9 in the official UK compilation chart & number 2 in the dance chart. On the live front, FooR is one of the favorite party-starting festival acts and have played some of the biggest stages in the world over the last few years, including EDC, Isle of Wight Festival, Boardmasters and Mutiny. Earlier this year FooR performed their biggest show to date, playing the Big Top at Isle Of Wight festival on Saturday to 12,000 people in between the headliners Example & Zara Larsson.

The group’s latest endeavor is a mix of Sam Supplier’s original Night & Day mix. Released by Champion Records on October 20th, the remix package aims to take the summer hit back to the clubs as a staple track. Throwing everything they’ve got into this UKG mix, FooR manages to take the original and somehow make it even catchier. A two-step garage beat with added chunky synth melody, combined with the Night & Day vocals takes this mix to the next level.

With FooR’s latest celebrated release, the group has shared some of their favorite tracks that they or other artists have recorded through this special playlist.
