Movement Festival Announces Curated Stages, Special Performances and Pop-Up Stage for 2019 Edition

SpinnZinn is a multifaceted musician and a man who boasts a long relationship with the city of Miami. A host at the Bassment Sessions radio show WVUM 90.5FM for 6 years, he’ll be back again at Miami this year, as he returns to Ultra for a set alongside some serious global DJ heavyweights such as La Fleur, Marcel Dettmann and more, all of whom will play the PLAYdifferently stage.
Indeed, itâs his role at Allen&Heath, where he acts as the Global Product Specialist for the PLAYdifferently mixer for which SpinnZinn is best renowned. Working alongside Minus boss Richie Hawtin — who created the mixer with Andy Rigby-Jones — in the final stages of prototype testing, he also helped put the final touches and adjustments to the brandâs MODEL 1.
In advance of his gig at Ultra Miami on 29th March, we decided to put some questions to the man himself.
RESISTANCE, Ultra Worldwideâs esteemed underground concept, has come a long way since its Ultra debut as a single stage in 2015. With Ultra Music Festival 2019 around the corner, RESISTANCE has announced that it will be returning to Miami this year with its most ambitious plans yet.
Following the news that Ultra Music Festival officially moved to its new venue at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park & Miami Marine Stadium, RESISTANCE has revealed that it will have its own island, taking over the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park side of the venue for the weekend. This comes as a significant upgrade as the concept will have more space and hours to use than ever before. The festival will officially run from 2pm – 2am on all three days.
In the genre of electronic music, Richie Hawtin is considered an industry pillar. As one of the pioneering techno artists in the music scene, Hawtin has enjoyed a very successful career playing to sold-out crowds all over the world, headlining major festivals, running several world-renowned labels, founding some of the most talked-about party series and brands and even launching his own ENTER.Sake and PLAYdifferently DJ mixer equipment lines.
As such, it is hard to imagine that at one point Hawtin’s career came into serious doubt, but that is exactly what happened more than 20 years ago when the man himself did indeed think his career was truly over.
Every Carl Cox interview is a chance to learn more, to gain insight from a man that has been at the forefront of dance music for over three decades now.
In his latest outing, a talk with inthemix, the British icon spoke candidly about a variety of subjects pertaining to the current state of the dance music scene, in particular stressing his undying passion for being a quality track selector that accepts no compromise when it comes to music:
It was just at the beginning of this year that Richie Hawtin unveiled his latest project to the rest of the world. Alongside Andy Rigby-Jones and Allen & Health, the Windsor-born producer, label head and DJ introduced PLAYdifferently’s MODEL1 Mixer, aiming to revolutionize the way DJs perform.
Throughout the prototype testing, Hawtin enlisted the assistance of several other elite DJs in trying out the product, all of them endorsing it as true ambassadors of what they felt was a truly unique and much needed new addition to DJ gear market. Later, PLAYdifferently welcomed Dubfire, DJ Tennis, Chris Liebing, Maceo Plex, Mike Servito, Hito, Loco Dice and many others to join Richie on his Prototype Tour across the world performing exclusively with the new MODEL1.
Now, this illustrious group of artists is joined by Nicole Moudaber, Paco Osuna and Matador, the latest ambassadors to have endorsed PLAYdifferently’s vision and MODEL1 as an ideal mixer for both DJ and live sets. Together with this announcement, PLAYdifferently has also introduced a key technology partnership with one of UK’s most renowned nightlife brand and venue, The Warehouse Project in Manchester. The goal with the collaboration is to allow a wide array of artists to have access to Hawtin’s first released mixer at several elite events yet to be specified.
Each of the new ambassadors had the following to say regarding their involvement with the project:
âFinally a refined mixer is available. It was instant love when I played the MODEL1 in Palm Springs. The sound experience and attention to detail implemented is second to none. This 6 channel mixer is a game changer for the DJS who seek to enhance their sets as well as playing back to back.â – Nicole Moudaber
“Iâd been searching for the right analogue summing mixer to glue together all the elements in my live set, something that could also give me hands on control with certain familiarities. The MODEL1 has become the centre-piece, the engine room for my live performances, delivering next level sound and opening up sonic possibilities & techniques that I could only dream of in the past, a truly inspirational piece of kit!” – Matador
âItâs important to have a tool that facilitates the musical expression as MODEL1. The features of the mixer allow me to be much more creative; as it has such precise equalisation and such a great range of frequencies, I get to keep using many more tracks at once without making the mixing sound too stuffy. Also, for me itâs essential that all channels have a filter, be it independent or general, as that way I can use six channels at once; and by using the general filter the sound is uniform and compact. The tool I need to maximise my creativity when I’m DJing is finally here!” – Paco Osuna
ENTER. and M_nus boss Richie Hawtin just announced a PROTOTYPES TOUR presented by PLAYdifferently, the new project he embarked on to develop and release state-of-the-art DJ equipment.
With the aim of testing the final prototypes of PLAYdifferently’s new mixer, the tour will start on Monday March 14th at Los Angeles’ Sound Nightclub before stops at SXSW in Austin, the smaller Panther Room within Output in New York, a Miami Music Week appearance and a show at Spybar Chicago alongside DJ Tennis before jetting off to Europe. There, he is set to test out the equipment in Paris, Tenax in Florence, Watergate in Berlin, fabric in London and Robert Johnson in Offenbach before a special showcase during Movement weekend in Detroit alongside heavyweights Joseph Capriati, Dubfire and Hito.
The final stop will take place at Awakenings in Amsterdam on Sunday June 26th where he will be accompanied by the likes of Maceo Plex, The Martinez Brothers, Chris Liebing, Hito and Fabio Florido.
