Support Nightlife in Los Angeles: Sign Petition To Extend Last Call to 4am

As we reported a couple of months ago, California could soon be passing legislation allowing each individual municipality to decide when their legal alcohol last call is.

Currently, the entire State is operating under law that prohibit any alcohol sales past 2am, a law that has curbed the expansion of nightlife in big cities the likes of Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego. Soon that could change, but the first step is for the power to be given to local municipalities to make that choice.

A petition, which you can SIGN HERE, has now been launched to rally support behind Senate Bill 384:

SB 384 would allow – but not require – local governments to allow bars and nightclubs to serve alcohol past 2 am and up to 4 am. Also known as the LOCAL Act (Let Our Communities Adjust Late Night), SB 384 is moving through the State Assembly and we need your help to get it across the finish line.

Authored by Senator Scott Wiener (SD11), SB 384 was passed by the California State Senate, and now must be voted on in the Assembly in late August or early September.

SB 384 simply allows cities to opt in: pure local control. This optional tool for local control over nightlife will increase tax revenue and tourism, revitalize business districts, and support nightlife culture in our cities.

Miami Residents Launch Petition To Kick Ultra Music Festival Out Of The City

Ultra Music Festival has called Miami home since 1999, now a three-day event that marks the end of Miami Music Week each March.

The festival has moved several times, first taking place on South Beach and more recently switching from Bayfront Park to Bicentennial Park and then back to Bayfront Park in the downtown area. Ultra’s contract with Bayfront Park is about to expire, however, and nearby residents have been collecting signatures to ensure it does not get renewed.

The petition, which counts more than 1,100 signees as of time of writing, targets both Ultra and hip-hop festival Rolling Loud, and was delivered yesterday at the city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting.

Make Your Voice Heard and #savefabric From Closure!

Save Fabric banner

fabric is facing an upcoming license review on September 6th that could potentially close the venue for good.  The club is now asking its patrons and music fans from all over the world to join the #savefabric campaign by signing a petition to keep the club open.

The London nightlife institution could be closing down for good after its license was suspended by the local council in liaison with the Metropolitan police following the recent death of two clubbers from drug overdoses. The situation has sparked international attention, with artists, record labels and other venues lending their voice to save the club and asking the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to step in to assist.

Mr. Khan has called for a solution that both saves the venue and safeguards patrons, going a step further by launching a hiring campaign for the first ever Night Czar in London that will be charged with shaping London’s future as a 24-hour city.

Islington Council will hold a scheduled review of the club’s license on September 6th, where both councillors and authorities will forward their arguments and push for one of three solutions: a change of license, a suspension of license or even closure.

In an effort to ensure that the club does not shut down, the venue is encouraging supporters to sign a  Change.org petition to underline the club’s importance.

You can sign the petition here.

The club released the below full statement on the current situation via its Facebook page:

Brits Launch Petition to Stop Kanye West from Recording David Bowie Tribute Album

KanyeMain

Despite no confirmation that Kanye West is in fact recording a David Bowie tribute album or even any tribute songs, Bowie fans in Great Britain have launched a petition to stop him from doing just so.

The Daily Star, a British tabloid, began circulating the rumor when an unnamed source claimed that Kanye had been delivering versions of Bowie hits including “Rebel Rebel” and “Heroes.” According to the source, “some are straightforward covers with Kanye actually singing. On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie’s music.”

The moment of writing, the petition had drawn 4,900 signatures, perhaps fueled by memories of Kanye’s rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” at Glastonbury, which drew a lot of harsh criticism. Many fear the Chicago-born rapper is cashing in on Bowie’s death and would do a disservice to the late artist’s music.

Kanye’s representatives were asked for comment on the matter by the Independent but didn’t immediately respond.
