My weekend excursion to New York for the second edition of Time Warp US was nothing short of eye-opening mind stimulation amongst the finest techno one’s ears could possibly commend on American soil. Music festivals have taken on a whole new dimension over the years. Many festivals such as Decibel and ADE extend beyond the music festival itself, and offer attendees a wide array of events such as workshops, panel discussions, and of course, world class musical performances from some of the best in the game.

Today, Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) announced that they will return to Williamsburg on November 6th and 7th to host their eighth edition of BEMF. In 2014, BEMF hosted over 30 events spanning across ten venues throughout Williamsburg, and featured a wide range of artists such as Nicolas Jaar, The Black Madonna, Route 94, and more.

BEMF 2015 is also teaming up with THUMP to lead a plethora of free daytime panel discussions that always prove to be a wealth of insightful information for fans and industry folk alike.

The lineup is still forthcoming, but limited “blind faith” tickets are on sale now for $80– which provides access to all events, panels, pre-parties and after parties. One night passes will also be available for those interested.

Matthew Dear presents DELQA, an Audiovisual Project in New York

MatthewDearBeans2

Matthew Dear has revealed DELQA, an interactive art installation that will be open to the public from August 6-9 at Manhattan’s New Museum. DELQA is a collaboration by Dear and a team of artists and designers. The project will be on display at the Lower East Side’s New Inc Studio by the museum.

Matthew Dear blurs the lines between audio and visual creativity by incorporating the environment and producing new ideas through his music, notably by utilizing the playground of industrial sounds found at Detroit’s abandoned General Electric factory to produce the song Drop Science. He’s developed a musical ethos that resonates greatly with the audience, and is a noble innovator within the industry.

“I wanted to compose a sonic dreamscape, fully realizing that dreams are weird and not always black and white. The music rests between peaceful and chaotic states, allowing the listener to come up with their own story while engaging with the piece.” – Matthew Dear on the DELQA Project

The project will be open next week from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM on Thursday and Friday, and from 11:00 AM -6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. In order to attend you must RSVP through DELQA’s official site.

Throwback Thursday: Spiritual Experience – In The Presence of Angels (Tribal Love Mix)

The time is 1994. The place is New York. The sound is tribal. In the late 80’s and early 90’s DJ’s and producers were experimenting with many new forms of house music. Taking influences from soul, jazz, and disco this new form of dance music was emerging, but like every sound it would soon go through a transformation itself. What was soon to rock the clubs would be this tribal house sound; utilizing rhythmic drums this sound took parties to the next level. Today we throw it back to a classic tribal house classic from Spiritual Experience. In the Presence of Angels (Tribal Love Mix) is an iconic track that was at the forefront of the tribal house movement.

It’s certainly a journey of a track coming in at just above 10 minutes long. As tribal would suggest, the track is fueled by a variety of drum hits and is then accompanied by a chant that echoes through every corner of the dance floor. It isn’t until the tracks halfway point that 90’s house stabs come in and inject some flavor into the track.

Even 20 years later this track would still work a dance floor over. Tracks like In the Presence of Angels are a major influence on the sounds we enjoy today, and were revolutionary to club life back in the day.
