Beatport has added amapiano to its list of genres. The digital music retailer says the change is to help fans “discover the sound, translating into improved sales for artists and labels, and a better customer experience, as fans can find music that is truly representative of the amapiano culture.”
Beatport has added a brand new genre category: Jackinâ House. Characterized by its spirited attitude, elastic beats, shuffling percussion, booming basslines, and chopped-up samples from styles such as Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz, Swing, Funk, and Disco, Jackinâ House is an essential component of the House music spectrum. By migrating the Jackinâ House genre from its current home on the store â Funky / Groove / Jackinâ House, which will now live as Funky House â Beatport aims to provide a much-needed destination for this essential and celebrated house music genre and subculture. Beatport makes hard techno its own genre and is now separate from the peak time/driving genre it was originally categorized under. The move comes after receiving feedback from its peers including prominent labels and artists distributors. The hard techno community also encouraged Beatport to give hard techno a home of its own. The masses spoke, and Beatport listened.
