The pianist, jazz aficionado, and rock musician, Guti will perform his live set combining the sounds of Desolat, Crosstown Rebels, Supplement Facts, and Wolf & Lamb. Guti was at one time a revered keyboard player in a band in Buenos Aires by the name of Jovenes Pordioseros and chose to explore new paths. In 2005, he started to delve into house and techno music and has went on to be apotheosized throughout the world. The ever evolving artist has a residency at two US clubs including Verboten in Brooklyn and Trade in Miami and just released remixes of his Rompecorazones album on Defected which shares names with his new label in which the original album was released on. Following his Flying Circus Los Angeles appearance, Guti will perform a live concert in Barcelona also entitled Rompecorazones on analog synths and a piano along with Livio & Roby, violinist Rosanne Philippens, pianist Julien Quentin, and trumpeter Greg Paulus. Guti will also make his debut at Awakenings Festival in Holland on June 28th.

Martin Buttrich will exhibit his technical prowess and diverse range of harmonies playing for and to the crowd. Last year he celebrated his 20th anniversary with a twenty city tour around the world. This year he has plans to release his new collaborative album aptly entitled MB‘Collaborator’ along with fellow artists and counterparts who also embarked on his world tour last year. He will release the album on his new label by the name of Rhythm Assault which he will use as a platform to create and showcase his new musical projects by himself. Martin will also be seen on the bill for Flying Circus parties in London and Barcelona following his act in Los Angeles.

Crosstown Rebels artists and Leverage Recordings label owner, Eduardo Castillo will play along with special guests in Room 2 while Underrated Presents and Minimal Effort founders Human Resources will also take to the decks to match the sounds of Audiofly, Guti, and Martin Buttrich. Minimal Effort will follow up from their last event that brought the likes of Matador, Uner, Butch, Andhim, and more to Park Plaza in Los Angeles which was a spectacular event with a massive turnout.

Event Review: Minimal Effort – Andhim, UNER, Matador, Butch

Minimal Effort kicked off its 2015 season in orderly fashion last Saturday at the Legendary Park Plaza featuring a rare combination of House & Techno. Leading the outdoor stage was German duo Andhim and Spanish groove master, UNER, while the indoor stage showcased Austria native, BUTCH, and M-NUS artist Matador who displayed a remarkable live set. This was a night truly made for music lovers in Los Angeles as all came together for an unforgettable good time.

What has made Minimal Effort a staple isn’t just the line-up they book, but rather the unique and diverse crowd they attract and the vibe it brings to each series. It was a nice treat to see some old familiar faces, industry colleagues, along with meeting new people throughout the night. Something rare when we go out these days or maybe we’re just going to the wrong events

The Legendary Park Plaza was a great location providing two stages, which allowed the party to have two separate sounds, and the venue layout allowed for a great flow through both rooms. Drinks were served quickly from the friendly bar staff and bathrooms were plentiful once they opened up the ones inside.

OUTDOOR STAGE: The atmosphere coupled with the cool weather really made this stage standout as music flowed impeccably from Dadon to Human Resources to UNER and Andhim. The standout of the night that had everyone raving was UNER’s remarkable set that had the entire party erupting with beats after beats. This does not take away the mind-blowing closing set by Andhim as the duo took us right through until the end. The horizontal stage set up made things a bit cramped in the back for people trying to pass through; you really had to be in the meat of the dance floor or the outskirts to really get your groove on. We would suggest next time to make the outdoor stage vertical next time as it’ll create a longer space for more people to dance while minimizing the sound bleed in the indoor room.

INDOOR STAGE: If Techno is your answer then this was the room to be. The indoor stage provided a moodier side of Minimal Effort with its pitch black setting giving it the mysterious underground warehouse vibe that is notorious here in LA. We caught the tail end of DAVI’s set which perfectly set the tone for the much anticipated showing of BUTCH, who delivered a stellar set that balanced between hypnotic and driving techno leaving the dance floor in awe. Matador finished the night off with a grand live set further exemplifying his unlimited arsenal to destroy the dance floor and close out the night.

This was one of those parties that people were in shock and awe when the lights came on in the end as those remaining simply craved more. If that’s not a sign of something special we’re not sure what is.

One criticism from event-goers was that the sound could have been louder indoors as the bass didn’t really quite kick as hard as desired. Minimal Effort returns on Saturday May 23rd with Audiofly hosting their Flying Circus series with Nina Kraviz plus more to be announced. We know we’re not the only one to say that “we can’t wait for the next Minimal Effort”. See you soon….

Freebie Friday: Butch – From Above

Butch Live

Butch is an artist that needs little introduction. As a person he is lighthearted and comical, and when it comes down to the music his passion for life is evident. In preparation for his set tomorrow night at Minimal Effort, we’ve gone back into his archives and dug up a free download that he released from Area Remote Records two years ago.

Butch n Virginia’s From Above is a slick piece of emotive grooves and sonic subtleties that is perfect for the coming months. This particular track was out on Area Remote, but Butch has his catalog spread-out through a variety of labels such as Watergate, Bouq, Desolat, Cécille, and Cocoon, to name a few. From his releases to world tours, Butch consistently spreads positive vibes and music to everyone he encounters. Tomorrow night will be no exception.

Enjoy the free download of From Above, and make sure to catch him in Los Angeles tomorrow night at Minimal Effort.

Techno Therapy: Fur Coat Free Download

ME-NYE-Black

Techno Therapy this week comes just in time to celebrate the New Year. Today we bring you an excellent track from the duo, Fur Coat, which they have also so kindly put up for free download on their Soundcloud. A nice little post holiday present right before their NYE show in LA for Minimal Effort’s Black & White extravaganza.

Polyphonic, as the name suggests, is loaded with that warm grit that can be attributed to many polyphonic synths throughout history. The filters ring out when they’re opened up, and Fur Coat utilizes the iconic sound to fatten up the track with many layers making this an intense dance floor tool. Fur Coat is an excellent compliment to the other artists on the lineup, so expect them to lay down some great tracks while they keep the energy going.

If you’re still looking for New Years Eve plans, Minimal Effort still has Tier 4 tickets and Open Bar VIP tickets remaining. Keep in mind it is a ticket only event, but you can go to the link below for more info.
