This was a monumental year for dance music. From techno artists gracing Hollywood via The Matrix Resurrections’ soundtrack to DJing at the Grand Canyon. Electronic music is everywhere. With a variety of the best house and techno tracks, it’s difficult to compile tracks that sum up the year. The list of songs is an array of how to describe this year in music. From light to dark and upbeat to down-tempo and hardcover heavy-hitters. As the year closes to an end, here are the 21 tracks that defined 2021.
This past weekend one of the worldâs biggest electronic music brands, Germanyâs Time Warp, returned to the United States after a four-year hiatus.
The anticipation was worth the wait for the several thousand North American electronic music fans who poured into The Bronx in New York City for the two-night festivities organized in liaison with local promoter Teksupport. In the 25 years since Time Warp was founded in Mannheim, Germanyâwhere it celebrated its quarter-century birthday earlier in the yearâthe festival has consistently set a golden standard for immersive stage production and an equally mind-blowing lineup. Throughout the years the festival has hosted the who’s who of techno, house, tech house and minimal, from heavyweight names that have shaped the history of underground electronic music across several decades, to up-and-comers and future leaders of their respective sounds.
With the Ibiza season almost underway, Italian Life & Death duo Tale of Us has announced the full roster of their freshman Afterlife residency at Space Ibiza.

Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival is always an eclectic affair, and while the line-ups are definitely EDM-heavy, Pasquale Rotella and his team have always found space to give their fans some techno and house.
This year’s New York edition will take place on May 14th and 15th at Citi Field. Insomniac just released the complete line-up for 2016Â and it includes some heavyweights of the current “underground” scene.
First up, in alphabetical order, is CLR boss Chris Liebing, a New York City favorite who is bound to bring a darker side of techno to the festival. Chicago’s Green Velvet, a regular Insomniac guest DJ, will also be making an appearance as will Hannah Wants.
Hot Since 82 is set to bring his Knee Deep in Sound brand to New York, possibly as the head of a stage showcase, as is Nicole Moudaber with Moodzone. New York’s very own Lauren Lane and The Martinez Brothers will also be performing, joined by Life & Death’s Mind Against, Paco Osuna, and Technasia.
Last year’s edition included illustrious names in techno and house such as Carl Cox, Art Department, Joseph Capriati, John Digweed, Luciano, Ăme and Dixon.
Tier 1 tickets have already sold out. Tier 2 is currently on sale for $229 plus fees – layaway options are also available. See the full line-up below.
