Premiere: Markus Suckut Returns to made of CONCRETE with “Voices In My Head” EP Including Rebar Remix

For someone who does not necessarily compose for the dance floor, it is a pleasant side effect how appreciated Markus Suckut’s work actually is in the clubs. His productions are instinctively groove-focused, there is a continual hypnotic hook in Suckut’s reduced techno. The elements are sparse yet highly effective, the tracks direct but the funk still there. Whether he leans towards more dub or breakbeat oriented productions, his swinging signature groove is always present.

German-born and based Markus has been producing and DJing since the late 90s, being a DJ he likens to a storyteller, he prefers longer more embellishing sets. He has built his career on excitement and playfulness, something that has paid off into a rich back catalogue. Today, Suckut is a well-known producer in the techno world, whose releases have found a home on such respected labels as Rekids, Odd Even, Hypercolour or Edit Select to name just a few. Suckut is also the founder of the SCKT imprint. The DĂŒsseldorf producer has been a part of the made of CONCRETE  family for some time now and the pair up between the two on Voices In My Head feels like an ideal match.

In Interview with Markus Suckut: “For Me 6am Is The Perfect Time”

Anja Schneider created Sous to provide a new platform where she can evolve her sound and play around with new creative ideas. It’s also fast become a home for some exciting collaborations with a new wave of outstandingly talented and accomplished producers Schneider admires.

Making his Sous debut is hypnotic techno king, Markus Suckut with two exceptional original cuts – ‘6AM’ and ‘Float’. Since bursting onto the scene back in 2009, Markus has stayed faithful to his minimal tech roots, creating mind-altering releases for everyone from Rekids to Figure by way of his own SCKT imprint. An artist at heart, his music is very often made without a dance floor in mind: a testament to his studio craft that he’s become such a potent force in the scene.

With an EP title we are certainly fond of, 6AM sat down for a chat with Markus to talk about his relationship with Anja, the meaning behind 6AM and more.

Q&A and Premiere: Markus Suckut To Release “Resist” Album on EXILE

Markus Suckut is a producer and DJ that cannot be pigeon-holed. His personal history with music begins back in 1999 when the then young Markus first discovered electronic music and began experimenting with various musical directions, spurred on by the excitement of DJing and the exploration of new sounds. It did not take long for him to find his niche in techno, and in particular with the dub side of the genre.

Just as his productions are, his sets reach wide in the spectrum of techno, characterized by an allure of dreaminess and a penchant for melancholy and thought-provoking sounds.

On March 7th Markus is slated to release Resist, a nine-track album coming out on his own EXILE imprint, which he runs with Johannes Heil. Heil talked about the album, which follows releases on Rekids, SCKT, Figure and new alias Tales Of The Machines:

It is a big temptation – whilst striving to place oneself on the map – to favor and repeat established structures and norms in order to gain fortune, fame and power. To cripple a work of art under pressure of commercial success and to trade the uniqueness of a creative spark for an egoistic idea means using a calculating mind to overrule art and emotions. But this pulse of an artist is not his mind but his heart with which he exposes his energy and vibration through frequencies. For this reason there is only one way which retains the creation in its innocent spontaneous form in order to stay true to its inspirational core. The Path Of Resistance!

On top of exclusively premiering “Ninth Movement” off the album, our personal favorite of the entire fantastic release, we had the chance to chat a little bit with Markus ahead of the album dropping next week

Despite Ibiza’s role as the mecca of electronic dance music world over, the sounds of techno seldom make their way to the island throughout the season, with parties gernally favoring house and tech house. In recent years, bigger names of the genre such as Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing Ben Klock and RĂždhĂ„d have all paid visits to the island, as have a string of Detroit techno legends the likes of Robert Hood and Derrick May. Mostly, these have been guests at parties such as ENTER., Cocoon or Detroit Love – nights that cover techno but not in their entirety. The truth is that at least in recent years there hasn’t been a party solely devoted to “proper techno” throughout the island, despite the genre’s popularity and the vast amount of talent that represents it.

That is about to change with MATERIA, a brand new techno night presented by veteran Marco Bailey at Privilege‘s Vista Club on Sunday night. The residency will last 11 eleven weeks throughout the summer, showcasing sounds that focus on techno and nothing else. When announcing MATERIA, the Belgian artist said, “I want to present you all with MATERIA – a night that reflects our sound, a sound that creates a certain outstanding energy that penetrates the body and soul. For me, it is that special kind of energy we call TECHNO, a sound I have represented for over 15 years. MATERIA will be bringing music fans together worldwide, from Belgium to Spain to the United States to Japan – uniting us together as one”

This first summer residency for Bailey will begin on June 19th, and will feature quality techno acts such as Black Asteroid, Paul Ritch, Sam Paganini, Marcel Fengler, Carlo Lio, Shlomi Aber, as well as Markus Suckut, Vril and Sasha Carassi.

More acts are yet to be announced, but it’s already starting to look like MATERIA will be the techno hotspot on the island throughout this year’s summer.
