Solardo’s Big Success With “Big Talk”, Idris Elba, and Ambitions

Collectively known as Solardo, the duo is comprised of production duo Mark Richards and James Eliot — both hailing from Manchester, England. In conjunction to having the rise of their hard work with a slew of releases and collaborations from Viva, Elrow, Hot Creations, Carl Cox, Duke Dumont, Gorgon City, MK, Nicole Moudaber, and many others, the prolific duo is once again stepping into the new year with another memorable flare. On March 3rd, 2023, Solardo will be releasing a collab single with fellow British DJ and producer Idris Elba on the feel-good club tune “Big Talk” via Ultra Records. Playfully dirty, the new release leans its weight on an undeniable beat and equally hypnotic hook, but leaving it at that undercuts of the sexy nuance and swelling basslines.

Next to an exciting release schedule, Solardo is also touring across the globe in festivals and clubs in México, Brazil, the US, Croatia, and Ibiza. Solardo will be touching down in Miami at the end of March for Miami Music Week, where the pair will be playing at ANTS at the Oasis on March 22, Vintage Culture’s party at SLS on March 23, No Sugar Added at the Magic City Villa on March 25, and at the Resistance Club on March 26.

University Professor Claims Listening to Techno Can Make You Smarter

If you have an arduous physics exam coming up? Are you looking to pass the bar in the next coming months? You may be in luck if you’re a fan of underground electronic music.

According to Professor Peter Dale of Manchester Metropolitan University, adding techno to your studying routine can increase your chances of getting improved academic results. In fact, Dale believes that techno should be incorporated in the classroom teaching approach as a means of revolutionizing education.

Perhaps listening to the latest recorded set from Awakenings, Time Warp or Movement Detroit festivals in the classroom will one day be an accepted method of improving student results. We already know of plenty of accredited universities teaching DJ and production classes, but according to Dale it’s about using the right music for the students in his classes, which he believes is likely to be techno (or other electronic music) in today’s world.

For a lot of these kids, they’ve grown up with this music – their aunties, brothers and friends are into it, too. And their parents were probably ravers in the heyday of “acid house”

What do you think? Can techno really improve student results?

Manchester City Guide with Imaginary Part

Italian producer Imaginary Part, known to friends and family as Davide Cuoghi, is now based in Manchester, England, and supplies us with his guide to the city.

Museek Records is an Italian label with a simple but honest philosophy: if the music is good and they dig it, they’ll release it. To date, it’s meant the label has flirted with a range of different sounds, with the general consensus being that their way of working has emitted some staggeringly impressive results to date. A similar thread courses throughout the diverse sounds of their latest. This time about, it comes at us from Davide Cuoghi aka Imaginary Part, a relatively elusive producer with but a few releases to his name so far. Machine Learning is his debut LP – and it truly is a joy to behold. Davide takes inspiration from a mathematical notion via his alias, as in mathematics complex numbers are made from a real part and an imaginary part. Without the imaginary part they are purely real. Imaginary Part is an escape from reality, taking inspiration from ambient, downtempo and abstract soundtracks.

Imaginary Part is set to release Machine Learning on Johnny Paguro’s Museek later this month, with the release already available on the label’s Bandcamp page.

#TBT Series: The Second Summer of Love, Britain’s Acid House Revolution

During the summers of 1987-89, Britain experienced one of its largest youth movements ever. A direct result of the rise of acid house, the introduction and consumption of ecstasy, and the need for a space where your looks, sexual orientation, or societal status didn’t matter. This social phenomenon is noted as the Second Summer of Love, referencing the sixties Summer of Love, where 100,000 hippies converged in San Francisco’s neighborhood, Haight-Ashbury, to experiment and become conscious of one’s existence.

At a time when rare groove and hip-hop dominated most of the UK club music scene, acid house was skyrocketing in popularity thanks to ecstasy and two of the most influential clubs in the UK, the Haçienda and Shoom.
