Minimal Effort NYE Returns to The MacArthur with DJ Tennis, Justin Martin, Jimmy Edgar and More

We have been following the events with Minimal Effort closely, knowing full well what happened during their All Hallow’s Eve event on Halloween weekend. The simple truth of the matter is that the organizers were forced to shut doors due to “capacity and safety” issues although the event was not at capacity as approved and proven by city permits.

Naturally, this left a very sour taste in the mouth of attendees who couldn’t enjoy the night. The hallmark of a good brand can be seen in how they react to adversity and in their failure to deliver to their customers. Minimal Effort’s response in this regard has been impeccable, refunding all requests from ticket buyers that didn’t enter that night as well as providing them a free ticket to the upcoming 2017 New Year’s Eve edition. All this while doubling down on efforts to secure a venue that has a proven track record and that will provide the safe haven for all to enjoy the welcoming of 2018.

With this in mind, today Minimal Effort announced that it is makings its return to the historic haunts of The MacArthur, site of their successful 2015 edition and a venue that holds much respect and appreciation from Minimal Effort regulars. The event will continue its devotion to providing ahead of its time electronic music lineups to the underground elite of Los Angeles.

Minimal Effort’s lineups have always been a point of pride, and this time it’s no less, featuring Dirtybird favoritesĀ Justin MartinĀ and J.Phlip, Life and Death co-founder DJ Tennis, Detroit’s Jimmy Edgar, grit-driven House specialist Ardalan,Ā All Day I Dream favorite Oona Dahl, one of the world’s craftiest track-selectors in DJ Three and Minimal Effort staple Human Resources. But that’s not all, as Minimal Effort plans to announce a Special Guest on December 3rd.

Q&A and Premiere: One Child Policy Discusses His Debut EP on VRV, His Asian-American Heritage and Favorite LA Food Spots

Out on Los Angeles basedĀ VRV,Ā One Child Policyā€˜s debut introduces the electronic music world to a new and distinct sound. Featuring a yin and yang selection of tracks,Ā Cultural TransmissionsĀ (order here)Ā contains productions that are both club-ready and cerebral in nature, kinetic and moving while simultaneously exercising the mind into new dimensions.

One Child Policy (1CP) is a project born out of the LA’s colorful San Gabriel Valley Chinese area, a fusion of sorts that sees the amalgamation of electronica with a background of classical music, electrical engineering and sound design. The results are peculiar, in a most positive way, with distorted vocals, mind-bending synth leads, gritty yet warm percussions and an overall atmospheric aura that carries through all his tracks.

We had a chat with the man behind the project to talk about his roots, favorite Los Angeles food spots and the journey that took him here: the release of his debut on one of LA’s most recognized labels, from which we are premiering the track “Chase The Dragon.”

Support Nightlife in Los Angeles: Sign Petition To Extend Last Call to 4am

As we reported a couple of months ago, California could soon be passing legislation allowing each individual municipality to decide when their legal alcohol last call is.

Currently, the entire State is operating under law that prohibit any alcohol sales past 2am, a law that has curbed the expansion of nightlife in big cities the likes of Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego. Soon that could change, but the first step is for the power to be given to local municipalities to make that choice.

A petition, which you can SIGN HERE, has now been launched to rally support behind Senate Bill 384:

SB 384 would allow – but not require – local governments to allow bars and nightclubs to serve alcohol past 2 am and up to 4 am. Also known as the LOCAL Act (Let Our Communities Adjust Late Night), SB 384 is moving through the State Assembly and we need your help to get it across the finish line.

Authored by Senator Scott Wiener (SD11), SB 384 was passed by the California State Senate, and now must be voted on in the Assembly in late August or early September.

SB 384 simply allows cities to opt in: pure local control. This optional tool for local control over nightlife will increase tax revenue and tourism, revitalize business districts, and support nightlife culture in our cities.

Vatos Locos Boss Hector Returns to Sound in Los Angeles on September 8th

Hector is an artist on and up and up, and it doesn’t look like he is stopping any time soon.

The Mexican born-and-raised producer and DJ has been enjoying a meteoric rise in the last few years, all spurred by a work ethic that has seen him buckle down in the studio, behind the decks and as the founder of the popular Vatos Locos crew.

Influenced by Detroit greats the likes of Carl Craig, Moodymann and his now-friend Stacey Pullen, Hector learned how to DJ at the tender age of 16, soon getting the opportunity of a lifetime while working at the iconic Phonica record shop in London. There he met Loco Dice and Anja Schneider, and secured a spot on their labels (Desolat and mobilee respectively), the perfect launching pad to a career that has seen not stop once since.
