Q&A: Tim Engelhardt Talks America, Studio and Live Setup while on Debut United States Tour

One of Cologne’s youngest and brightest electronic music stars on the rise, Tim Engelhardt didn’t crash the scene out of nowhere, but started his path as a young kid, first trying to rewrite the piano pieces he had to practice at the tender age of eight, already showcasing the creative and musical mind that would eventually lead him to become the respected and prolific electronic music producer he is today.

Tim discovered the music of Robert Babicz early on and, under his influence and mentorship, became churning out track after track, growing his portfolio with plenty of releases on labels such as Traum Schallplatten, WIR, Babiczstyle, Amuse Gueule, Ostwind Records, Popart Music, Playmusic Productions, Parquet Recordings, Manual Music and Steve Bug’s iconic Poker Flat Recordings – all in just four short years, before eventually showcasing his music on imprints such as Dixon’s Innervisions and Cityfox.

Currently in the midst of his debut USA Tour, Tim took the time to talk with us in between his successful debut at Cityfox in New York and his stop at Chicago’s Spybar for 3feetdeep tomorrow night.

Global Vibe Radio 076 feat. Exilles

Exilles is a project born from the alchemy of two minds, united by a common desire to undermine, compose and recompose deep techno sounds with a mystical and enigmatic imagery. They strictly perform live, orchestrating ancestral ceremonies with analog machines and modular synthesizers, whose dark and hypnotic sounds chase the persistent in a synesthetic atmosphere.

A techno duo from Torino, Italy, Exilles’ sound is captivating and enthralling, a maze of tunnels, stairs, niches that form hypnotic soundscapes that invite you to go even deeper.
Their goal is to produce techno built around the polarity of light and darkness, black and white, continuously keeping listened poised between opposites, between consciousness and raving.

Sci+Tec’s Johnny Trika Performs Live from His Studio and Discusses His Setup

Dubbed as one of SCI+TEC’s ‘next generation’ and counting names like Dubfire and Richie Hawtin amongst his ever-growing list of high profile supporters, Johnny Trika is a producer who has been hotly tipped since his first release in 2014. Backed by a weighty discography on SCI-TEC, May 2017 has seen him once again putting his mark on the industry with a brand new EP and a US/Canadian tour – delivered in a one-two punch that’ll leave people talking right through the summer.

As a producer who pursues quality over quantity, a new Johnny Trika release is something to get excited about, and the Fast Life EP on Oneself is no different. Release at the end of May, the EP features two brand new original productions from Johnny, backed up by a razor-sharp remix from Maksim Dark. The title track brings together a rolling bassline with warped, chopped up vocals and delivers a dark, progressive weapon that’s been tried and tested in Johnny’s sets for a while now. On the other hand, Dreamless King takes on a more ethereal approach to techno with an almost dream-like quality in the synths – a layered but considered sound that retains Johnny’s inimitable weighty bassline and drums.

Yesteday we hosted Johnny on our Facebook page where he performed LIVE from his studio. Admittedly there were some connectivity issues but his impressive work as a live act can still be watched, and more importantly listened to, regardless. Watch the video below and read on for our interview with the producer where he explains his vision for his Live shows as well as his setup:

Sasha Set To Perform His Back Catalogue Live For The First Time Ever in 2017

Sasha Dj profile

Sasha has had an impressive 2016 so far. An all-around-the-world touring schedule coupled with the return behind the decks alongside John Digweed has kept him as relevant as ever at the forefront of the ever-changing landscape of dance music.

2017 will see the British-born producer perform live at the Barbican. The 20th of May re-Fracted (live) show is set to feature a specially-curated performance that will marry this year’s Scene Delete album, which came out on Late Night Tales, together with material from his back catalogue, synths, drum machines, live instruments and vocalists.

Like the best of his DJ sets, Scene Delete is a journey. With Sasha joined on stage by a small chamber ensemble, the album unfolds as one brooding, undulating piece that flows from start to finish, sounding somewhere between the dark, weightless soundscapes of Burial and the music modern composers like Nils Frahm, akin to fellow Late Night Tales artists Jon Hopkins and Bonobo.

“I spent quite a long time considering what exactly I could do as a ‘live’ performance as it’s something I have never done before. Luckily there has been a new wave of electronic musicians and composers pushing the boundaries with what can be done in this environment.

“I have DJ’ed to all kinds of crowds before from intimate 150 people after hours clubs to 200K people at a rave in a field. This is something totally alien and new to me, though.”

Unsurprisingly, the event sold out a full seven months in advance in under 45 minutes.
