Digging Deeper at ADE with The/Das

The/Das is a German electronic duo comprising of Fabian Fenk and Thomalla, with multiple releases on Life And Death, Sinnbus and Circus Company, and with their second album, Exit Strategies, now out on Life And Death. Their live set has taken different forms over the years, sometimes including other musicians and instruments, but currently is a purely electronic set up which offers the pair endless possibilities to improvise and re-invent their material.

Their emotionally rich, melodic compositions have since found a fitting home on Life And Death, whose sound is also somewhere between dark Pop and House, between the dance floor and the living room.

We caught up with them ahead of their ADE 2017 gig at the Life and Death showcase.

Life and Death Announces “Displaced Soundtracks” Ahead of ADE Showcase

Record label Life and Death is celebrating its 7th anniversary this year with the release of its third and most adventurous compilation release to date: Displaced Soundtracks.

Set to be the first installment in a new series, this compilation sees label founder DJ Tennis give free rein to some of his most trusted contemporaries. This has made possible for many of today’s most respected dance music producers the chance display their hidden talents as composers. Gathering music from a long-aborted film, the collection stands as another bastion of Life and Death’s perpetual evolution.

Displaced Soundtracks features Duncan Gray‘s embracing dissonance, Black Merlin, Appleblim and Artefakt going interstellar and Fango channeling post-punk squat music. Hades Rocket also showcases the expertly-sequenced synth work that has graced Simian Mobile Disco’s illustrious career, while Redshape revisits all the right sides of 80’s Wave and Library music. Danny Daze and synth-savant KINK embrace non-standard tempi with great success, while Axel Boman delivers sitar-laced gospel-house without a bass drum. Elsewhere, your favorite producer’s favorite producer, Stimming, teams up with pianist Lambert and magic happens as a result.
